Hunter2_1
I was going to do war films in general, but there are too many for our polls. So....Nam! Multiple choice as I know you all find it hard to be decisive when it comes to movies no docs involved. MWil23
While it's not a "Vietnam Movie", I'd say Forrest Gump.
Daniel
Apocalypse Now, then Full Metal Jacket, then Deer Hunter. Big dropoff after that.
BroncosFan2010
Quote Apocalypse Now, then Full Metal Jacket, then Deer Hunter. Big dropoff after that. You dont think Platoon is up there in that tier? I think its a masterpiece.

MWil23
Yeah, for me, each of those movies has an aspect that I think they do "best". Full Metal Jacket: Boot camp, mental reality/mob mentality, PTSD, race relations Platoon: Good vs. Evil, "who is the enemy?"/why are we here We were Soldiers: Combat scenes, impact on wives at home Apocalypse now I just didn't really like at all/I don't understand the fascination. Maybe it's because I had so many people hype it up.

Barnes is a great villain, and it's a pretty good movie, but I don't think it's an all time great.
Broncofan
I officially protest that Tropic Thunder isn't included here.
CaribouLou
Full Metal Jacket. The opening scene will always be one of my favorites.
rob_shadows
Count my in as another that went with full metal jacket even though Forrest Gump is my favorite on this list. Forrest Gump is not a Vietnam movie.

Hunter2_1
FMG is mine. Bit harrowing, isn't it. I liked what We Were Soldiers highlighted though - the folly of that war. American forces fly into an area, search-and-destroy and kills as many as you can, declare it a victory, then the VC/NVA just move back into those bunkers.....pointless. Ty21
Nothing has ever come closer to matching the mystique of the Vietnam war than Forrest Gump
