devils1854
2021 TOP 75 DRAFT PROSPECTS 1.Jack Leiter||RHP||Vanderbilt 2.Jud Fabian||CF||Florida 3.Kumar Rocker||RHP||Vanderbilt 4.Jaden Hill||RHP||LSU 5.Matt McLain||SS||UCLA 6.Jordan Lawlar||SS||Jesuit College Prep, TX 7.Benny Montgomery||COF||Red Land, PA 8.Brady House||3B||Winder Barrow, GA 9.Henry Davis||C||Louisville 10.Marcelo Mayer||SS||Eastlake, CA I have really gotten into the analytical side of scouting, and I have come to understand a good bit of it with the pitching side because of Jack Leiter. I was prepared to have him at #2 behind Fabian and ahead of Rocker because of his total package. The quick arm action. His optimal delivery height. His ability to tunnel all of his pitches is well beyond his years. Then he came out and hit 100 in his first start this past Monday.... Jud Fabian looked lost against Miami, and although he has crushed three home runs since, the swing and miss is more of a concern than I first thought. He could turn it around and it be just rust, but that is wait and see. Rocker is still the same pitcher that came to Vanderbilt three years ago. Its a good to great package, but I would not be surprised if he does not go top five come draft day. Lawlar is the top prep player now, but is he closer to Carlos Correa or Dansby Swanson? I think it could be Dansby with no real plus tool. Henry Davis stood out during the shortened college season last year and then we found about his data. Elite exit velos and optimal launch angle. He is also athletic enough to play adequate catcher. So far in 2020, he is hitting over .400 with no Ks in 28 plate appearances. Marcelo Mayer is the biggest watch for the high school season. Being from California, he was not able to have any kind of season last year and he was not able to get to many summer events. He could be the best high school prospect. He has flashed plus abilty at short with a potential plus hit tool. 11.Christian Franklin||CF||Arkansas 12.James Woods||COF||IMG Academy, FL 13.Luca Tresh||C||North Carolina State 14.Gunnar Hoglund||RHP||Ole Miss 15.Adrian Del Castillo||C||Miami 16.Izaac Pacheco||3B||Friendswood, TX 17.Andrew Painter||RHP||Calvary Christian, FL 18.Justice Thompson||CF||North Carolina 19.Jordan Wicks||LHP||Kansas State 20.Kahlill Watson||SS||Wake Forest, NC Christian Franklin has 3 HR and a 3B in the first two weekends, and if he has 55 power to go along with above average defense in center, he could be a top 10 pick. 8 strike outs so far is a little alarming. Luca Tresh has been the overshadowed catcher at NC State the past couple years, but after hitting over .400 in the shortened season, he popped up on radars. He has some of the quickest hands in the draft and can mash almost any pitch. This is plus power. 4 home runs and a .526 average is what he has done so far in 5 games in 2021. He could end up being the best catching prospect in this draft and maybe the top position player. I found about Justice Thompson four days ago. He transferred to North Carolina from Northwest Florida last year but did not see the field. He is 6'4 200, and looks more like a shooting guard than a baseball player. He looks very raw but from the short season, he could be a five tool player. This could be the breakout college player we were waiting on. Khalil Watson has flew up draft boards after maybe the best summer of any prep player. He is not a huge guy at 5'11 and maybe 175 pounds, but he is an explosive athlete that has demonstrated maybe plus power. Hit tool and pitch recognition can be a little erratic but he is pretty young for his class and he can stay a short, so the ceiling is quite high. 21.Jackson Jobe||RHP||Heritage Hall, OK 22.Joe Mack||C||Williamsville East, NY 23.Kevin Abel||RHP||Oregon State 24.Harry Ford||C||North Cobb, GA 25.Joshua Baez||COF||Dexter Southfield, MA 26.Tyree Reed||CF||American Canyon, CA 27.Ian Moller||C||Wahlert, IA 28.Chase Petty||RHP||Mainland Regional, NJ 29.Tommy Mace||RHP||Florida 30.Alex Mooney||SS||St Marys Prep, MI Before last summer, Jackson Jobe was thought of as a position prospect more than a pitcher. Sat 89-91 with adequate pitch offerings. Then he came out and hit 96, sitting 91-93 and the spin rate was elite, and then he threw a sharp breaking slider that sat at over 3200 rpms. High school pitchers with long pedigrees are scary to draft, but one that just popped up over the summer is going to be scouted heavily this spring. In 2018, Kevin Abel was the best player in the College World Series as a freshman. He pitched a complete game one hitter to clinch the championship. Since then, Abel has been injured. So far in 2021, he has pitched 9 innings and has allowed one run and struck out 18. He doesnt have an elite fastball. He relies on the best changeup in the draft and plus control. If he stays healthy and a team thinks they can unlock more from his fastball, he could turn into a George Kirby type of prospect. Tyree Reed is another prep prospect from California that we haven't seen much from in the past year because of covid. He relies on plus speed and defense in center and if he can show growth at the plate, he can be a top ten player. 31.Hunter Goodman||C||Memphis 32.Ethan Wilson||COF||South Alabama 33.Joe Rock||LHP||Ohio 34.Steve Hajjar||LHP||Michigan 35.John Rhodes||COF||Kentucky 36.Chase Burns||RHP||Station Camp, TN 37.Levi Usher||COF||Louisville 38.Alex Binelas||3B||Louisville 39.Mike Vasil||RHP||Virginia 40.Zack Gelof||3B||Virginia Ethan Wilson was a freshman all american in 2019 at South Alabama. He started off 2020 slow and then the season was cancelled. He has been injured so far this year and has played limited time at DH. He is stuck in left, and wont be more than adequate there. The hit tool and power will have to show back up soon, or he will be free falling. Joe Rock has thrown a 7 inning no hitter already for Ohio this season. He has shown a 60 grade fastball/slider combo. He is more projection at the moment, but he is a big and lean kid that can pop quickly with the right team at the next level. With the new draft date, John Rhodes becomes the best prospect to be reclassified. He is playing center at Kentucky, but I think right is his future. His arm will play there, and he has shown a good bit of promise with the bat. Alex Binelas is free falling for me. He had a good, not great, freshman year and then was awful for a few games before going down with an injury in 2020. Now in 2021, he has looked lost at the plate and he has been playing first. A position where some scouts thought he would be moved to anyway. Someone will take a risk on the bat early, but his floor continues to look lower and lower. 41.Jonathan Cannon||RHP||Georgia 42.Josh Hartle||LHP||Reagan, NC 43.Tommy Dilandri||CF||Palo Verde, NV 44.Colson Montgomery||3B||Holland, IN 45.Cody Schrier||SS||JSerra Catholic, CA 46.Anthony Solometo||LHP||Bishop Eustice, NJ 47.Sal Frelick||CF||Boston College 48.Christian MacLeod||LHP||Mississippi State 49.Ryan Holgate||1B/LF||Arizona 50.Michael Braswell||SS||Campbell, GA Cannon has not pitched so far in 2021 because of mono. Its a little concerning so I have slid him down the rankings slightly, but he is projected to come back in the next couple of weeks. He is a big lean kid with projection left, and if his secondary stuff can continue to grow with his plus fastball, he can find his way into the first round this year. Tommy Dilandri is a big, exciting kid that if he can stay in center, has a profile a bit like Jud Fabian. Big righty power with a swing and miss question mark that could push him down draft boards. Sal Frelick is another potential center field prospect in the 2021 draft but his profile is much different than Dilandri. Frelick is all hit tool. Its one of the best in the draft but he has not been able to show any power in games, and Im not sure if any will come. Second also might be his future position because his straight line speed has been able to mask some of his deficiencies in center so far. 51.Ryan Cusick||RHP||Wake Forest 52.Richard Fitts||RHP||Auburn 53.Michael Robertson||CF||Venice Senior, FL 54.Ty Madden||RHP||Texas 55.Thatcher Hurd||RHP||Mira Costa, CA 56.Rodney Boone||LHP||UC Santa Barbara 57.Malakhi Knight||CF||Marysville Getchell, WA 58.Drew Gray||LHP/OF||IMG Academy, FL 59.Ryan Webb||LHP||Georgia 60.Braylon Bishop||CF||Arkansas, AR 61.Noah Miller||SS||Ozaukee, WI 62.Gage Jump||LHP||JSerra Catholic, CA 63.Jonathan Childress||LHP||Texas A&M 64.Braden Montgomery||COF/RHP||Madison Central, MS 65.Maxwell Muncy||SS||Thousand Oaks, CA 66.Shane Panzini||RHP||Red Bank, NJ 67.Eric Cerantola||RHP||Mississippi State 68.Sam Bachman||RHP||Miami(OH) 69.Daylen Lile||COF||Trinity, KY 70.Gavin Conticello||SS||Stoneman Douglas, FL 71.Harold Coll||SS||San Jacinto JC 72.Ethan Murray||2B/SS||Duke 73.Griff McGarry||RHP||Virginia 74.Casey Opitz||C||Arkansas 75.Luke Leto||1B/LF||Portage Central, MI Michael Rothenburg||C||Duke Tommy White||1B||IMG Academy, FL Cody Morissette||2B||Boston College Max Ferguson||2B||Tennessee Wes Kath||3B||Desert Mountain, AZ Edwin Arroyo||SS||Arecibo Baseball Academy, PR Jose Torres||SS||North Carolina State Ryan Spikes||SS||Parkview, GA Grant Richardson||CF||Indiana Lonnie White||CF||Malvern Prep, PA Jay Allen||CF||John Carroll Catholic, FL Colton Cowser||COF||Sam Houston State Robby Martin||COF||Florida State Evan Shawver||LHP||Cincinnati Ricky Tiedemann||LHP||Long Beach CC Seth Lonsway||LHP||Ohio State Andrew Abbott||LHP||Virginia Irving Carter||RHP||Calvary Christian, FL Ben Specht||RHP||Florida ==================== 2022 Top 10 1.Elijah Green||CF||IMG Academy, FL 2.Connor Prielipp||LHP||Alabama 3.Termarr Johnson||SS||Mays, GA 4.Hunter Barco||LHP||Florida 5.Nate Savino||LHP||Virginia 6.Dylan Lesko||RHP||Buford, GA 7.Brooks Lee||SS||Cal Poly 8.Kevin Parada||C||Georgia Tech 9.Andruw Jones||CF||Weslyan, GA 10.Robert Moore||SS||Arkansas ==================== Edited February 28, 2021 by devils1854

devils1854
ACC ROUNDUP The ACC has been playing a lot of afternoon games this year and Ive been able to watch a lot from the office. The league looks really deep so far and will probably end up with a couple national seeds and maybe double digits to the tournament, especially if Notre Dame and Pitt are for real. *2022 **2023 GOOD Luca Tresh||C||North Carolina State .400/.467/.950, 7 HR, 1 2B, 9/5 K/BB Justice Thompson||CF||North Carolina .400/.509/.756, 4 HR, 4 2B, 13/8 K/BB, 5-5 SB Sal Frelick||CF/2B||Boston College .451/.508/.804, 4 HR, 4 2B, 1 3B, 6/6 K/BB, 3-5 SB Yohandy Morales||3B||Miami** .348/.392/.630, 2 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 6/3 K/BB Alejandro Rosario||RHP||Miami** 1.96 ERA, 23.0 IP, 15 H, 7 BB, 23 K, 5 ER Mitch Myers||RHP||Pittsburgh 3.18 ERA, 17 IP, 17 H, 4 BB, 26 K, 6 ER Kevin Parada||C||Georgia Tech* .486/.558/.811, 4 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 11/6 K/BB Drew Compton||1B||Georgia Tech* .447/.542/.947, 4 2B, 5 HR, 9/8 K/BB Brant Hurter||LHP||Georgia Tech 5.84 ERA, 12.1 IP, 10 H, 7 BB, 12 K, 8 ER(7ER 1.2 IP vs UL) Gavin Cross||COF||Virginia Tech .354/.431/.708, 4 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR, 7/5 K/BB, 2-4 SB Mike Vasil||RHP||Virginia 0.49 ERA, 18.1 IP, 10 H, 2 BB, 20 K, 1 ER Andrew Abbott||LHP||Virginia 3.18 ERA, 22.2 IP, 19 H, 7 BB, 36 K, 8 ER Where to start? Luca Tresh has only played in 10 games this year because of cancellations and still has 7 HR, and he is showing good knowledge of the strike zone, and he will stay at catcher. He keeps this up, and he will be my #1 catcher in my next update in April, even with Davis from UL having a good season. Thompson is still on a tear for North Carolina. Midweek I saw him power a ball over the LF fence after hitting the ball off the end of the bat. I might have to modify my stance on Frelick. I still dont think he is a CFer but he is showing some power and did it against a descent Auburn team last weekend. If that carries to the next level, he could be a solid starting 2B. After Vanderbilt, Miami might have gotten the best class to campus in 21 and its paying off with Morales and Rosario. Both should not be playing college baseball, but here we are with the virus. Same with Parada from Georgia Tech. He should have been drafted very early last year but high school catchers scare teams off and there are about four that Im watching that foolishly made it to campus this fall. Perada is the best of them, and might be the best catcher in the history of Georgia Tech by the time he finishes his two years. Power isnt there yet but he is very advanced at the plate and I might go ahead and slap a 60 on that hit tool as a true freshman. I think he is also a future gold glover at the position, but his plus athleticism could see him rise through the minors at a different position. Georgia Tech is loaded and even though the stats dont look great at first glance, Brant Hurter has jumped on radars. Went out early in 2019 with TJS and missed all of last year. He is obviously rusty and the command isnt there, but his slider is absolutely filthy. A team will fall in love and draft him early as a big project. Even their wins are struggles. Binelas and Usher are two of the main reasons. They were supposed to join Henry Davis and Luke Brown as one of the most dangerous top of the lineups in college baseball, but it hasnt happened. Binelas looks almost undraftable right now and he is playing first, so that pushes his value down even more. Usher is showing absolutely no power, but I think he might actually be able to play center at the next level. Adrian Del Castillo could have been the first college position player drafted but he has already slipped to my #3 catcher since he is showing no power. Almost everyone questions if he will catch at the next level and if he is pushed to left with no power? Thats not a major leaguer. You can take Robby Martin off any top 100 lists. Three years and still no power. I thought Chris Newell was a potential top 10 pick next year. Big time high school player that got mesmerized by Charlottesville and ended up at Virginia instead of the draft. Power, speed, defense combo in the outfield looked pretty good as a freshman in 2020 but he just looks lost so far this season. devils1854
Watching my Georgia Bulldogs play. Ryan Webb(#59) is making his third start of the year. He was sick to start the year(covid i think) so he only pitched 6 innings coming into today. He is through 6 against Lipscomb giving up no runs but the command has been spotty at best. He showcased a gorgeous changeup and then a curve in the 5th after being fastball/slider through almost all of the game so far. He's now thrown 5 curves since and three have flashed plus. Interesting. Command is not there and the fastball is a 50, so he wont be jumping up in rankings, but he looks like he could be solidifying a solid top 100 draft spot. Manzardo is a 1B only profile, but its a LH profile with plus power and maybe an above average bat. Mills has a 95 mph heater but up until this year, command has been an issue, but so far this year he has been much improved and it has improved his draft stock immensely. Dylan Beavers is an interesting name that I have come across recently. He is 2022 eligible. Didnt really do anything in 2020 to put himself on radars, but if he continues his stellar performance throughout the rest of the season, he will be talked about as a first round prospect. He is 6'4 and lanky playing center. He might have to move to a corner if he fills out too much, but if he can stay in center, he could have above average bat, power, and speed. Ryan Holgate is playing himself into the first round with a very strong start to 2021. He only has one home run so far in a very hitter friendly environment, but there looks to be power in his swing and body. It just needs to be unlocked. He does have nice gap power right now, so even if he isnt a 20+ HR hitter, he can still be very valuable. Is walking that line between a left fielder and a first baseman. He found his way to Stanford and he profiles as a prototypical power third baseman. He is an athletic kid at the moment but he has a big broad shouldered 6'4 frame that will most definitely grow into some significant weight. He has started slow so far in his freshman year, but he looks to be a first round talent in 2023. UCLA has not started the year they way they wanted to, and you can see why looking at the list. Curialle was a highly touted high schooler that played well in his short time in 2020, but he has not shown much with the bat so far this year. He is playing second, but will take over short next year when McLain leaves. He is more suited for short than McLain and has the frame to stay. Noah Cardenas is a major league defender at catcher. If he hits at all, he will enjoy a time share at the very least, but he hasnt hit since his freshman year, and there is no power, so the hit tool will have to show up and he will have to hit his weight to get to the majors. Matt McLain is hitting over .300 so far this year but he is showing no power compared to last year, and if he profiles with 45 power, then he will for sure fall out of the top 10 and maybe a lot farther. All seven teams in the division are stacked with talent. The SEC schedule started this weekend, so maybe some of the crazy numbers will level out playing against each other. I had Alabama in my preseason top 10 and their young talent has taken another level and looks to have a number of guys talented enough to go in the first 100 picks of the next two drafts. My favorite position player is Peyton Wilson. He is a 5'9 catcher that has been playing second and center field for the Tide this season. Easily athletic enough to stay behind the plate and be a good defender at the next level, but his bat and athleticism might move him to an easier position to get his bat in the lineup everyday. He is second year eligible for the draft in 2021. Antoine Jean is a sophomore lefty from Canada that was taken by his home country Blue Jays before deciding to head south for college. He has gained around 15 mph on his fastball in the past few years and it has really made him a prospect. Still sits low 90s from the left side and has a good breaking curve. Command is the biggest issue for him at the moment. Dylan Crews was close to a consensus top 50 draft prospect this past year, but he took his name out of the draft to go to LSU, and so far, he might be the best freshman in the country. He is playing right for the Tigers, and if he can stick there, he could be a top 5-10 guy in two years, but the fear is that he will be on the LF to 1B track early in his career. He has a possible plus hit tool to go with plus power as a freshman. Gunnar Hoglund is playing himself into the #3 college pitcher spot with his 2021 performance. There were questions about his fastball after sitting in the high 80s in 2020, but the velo is back to 92-95 in 2021 and he has become a dominant pitcher with his three above average to plus offspeed pitches. Casey Opitz is the catcher that Noah Cardenas wants to be. A defensive specialist that has to rely on the hit tool because there isnt much power in his body. Optiz has performed in the SEC for four years and should be able to be a part of a time share in the majors because of his defense. His coach is calling it a medical condition. I dont think any other info is known, but many dont think it is serious and hopefully he is back for the Tide next weekend. Jaden Hill is getting roughed up. The tools are there. The fastball is a plus pitch and he has an absolutely devastating changeup, but he is getting hit around. From what Ive seen, he isnt commanding his pitches. He is leaving them in hitable areas and is getting punished because of it. He still has top of the draft talent, but with the way guys like Hoglung, Wicks, and Madden have performed in 2021, he might slip out of the first round. Richard Fitts was getting tons of helium in the fall camp. His fastball touched triple digits and the hype started. The season has not started well. After three Friday night starts, he was taken out of the rotation because of a toe injury and has only pitched once since then. He's so talented and advanced, if anybody is gonna fly through the levels it's gonna be him.

Yes if they take him we'll see him in 2025 after their **** awful player development totally ruin his mechanics and make him scrap his best secondary stuff.

Ill give the new Pirates staff some leeway. Ke'Bryan Hayes sat stagnate for two years and just blossomed this past year in the majors and Quinn Priester looked like one of the best pitching prospects that people actually got to see and get data from this past fall. Maybe the new staff is somewhat competent. I think the bigger question, and this is something for all of baseball in general, is how are these teams changing their development programs with the input from players and their independent coaches and programs. Kids are flocking to places like Driveline because they work and teams are hiring people from these places. Leiter isnt where he is now without the coaches thats been working with him outside of the Vandy program. That Twitter video of him last summer was eye opening. He got so much better in those months following the stoppage of the college season. Trevor Bauer, love him or hate him, has also had a big impact on this change as well. He has always been the outspoken proponent of having all this technology and using outside the box ways to improve himself. If you've listened to him at all during the offseason, he's always talked about a partnership with the organization he is playing for. The Dodgers basically agreed to him using whatever resources he wants to help him become a better pitcher. How long until we see this from prospects? Say Leiter wants to continue using what got him to where he is, I could absolutely see him(or another player) refuse to go to organizations stuck in 1985. Dingo18287
Did Leiter top out at 124 pitches? How some of these coaches ride these pitchers in College, it’s ridiculous. Especially after the shortened season.
