I hope Leiter doesn't make it past 3. And I wouldn't be mad of the Tigers take Rocker over one of the SS if Leiter is gone by 3 just because of the volatility of prep SS's and dominance of the Vandy pitchers this year. Plus you can always trade MLB ready arms for bat prospects if needed. The Tigers desperately need a SS, but these kids are 3/4 years out and don't really fit the timeline of our pitchers and Tork/Greene/Dingler so I would rather shore up the rotation and sign someone to play short. Based on talent? Absolutely. Based on economics? Absolutely not. Have to figure that both Leiter and Rocker are almost certainly going to ask for slot (or almost all of slot if high enough), so if the prospects are graded in a similar realm and you can save a few million it makes sense. Just look at how far Soderstrom fell last year and he is performing better than almost any other prospect drafted in the first last year. Ford could go in the top 5 because of his athleticism. I heard that but would be fine drafting him anyways. We can afford him. It may screw up more of the draft later but oh well, your first rounders need to produce and he has the highest likelihood of doing that in this draft.
