  1. 1. Which WR is the best?

its a great question and highlights just how good a WR class 2019 was, when actually it was never considered mind blowing. In one sense it will be interesting to see if the class of 2020 can be as fruitful as 2019 as rookies (with 2020 being the big hype group of the 2).

AJB is the best WR IMO, followed closely by Terry, followed closely by DKM but its the latter i think will have the better year 2 given all factors.

AJ Brown is the truth. I'll try to pull up my stuff on Renfrow and McLaurin as well. I was pretty vocal about Renfrow and McLaurin's skill-set translating to the NFL.

Renfrow was Kupp-lite to me as far as play-style goes, or like a smaller Keenan Allen maybe. Loved his intangibles, route-running, reliable hands, clutch factor, and especially the sharp movement skills that make it all come together.

I was actually not in love with Metcalf, but he landed in the perfect spot in Seattle. Still, he's a .50 call bullet. Flies and smacks, but he still hasn't shown me the ability to move sharply the way that Scary Terry and Third-And-Renfrow do. He doesn't need to, though. He has reliable hands and a demigod's body.

I was a fan of Slayton, believe I posted about him in the Giants subforum as their potential #1, the week of the Corey Coleman season-ending injury. He was raw coming out, but everyone slept on his athleticism that made him so coveted at Auburn pre-draft. He's a missile with change-of-direction ability, and has the body of a #1 NFL WR.

Hollywood Brown is kind of like Kyler Murray at WR. Like, if you dig into what he CAN do, he does pretty much everything from an athletic and technical standpoint. The questions are in his size and ability to survive in the NFL. He's lightning-fast, very quick, and a refined route-runner with great hands. He separates and plays MUCH tougher than you'd think at his size. He has all the dog to him that we all wish Collin Johnson had.

A lot of people here compared Diontae Johnson very heavily to Antonio Brown, and I think that still holds true from a stylistic standpoint. I don't see Johnson being on the same level, but nobody expects that. He could be a good WR.

Mecole Hardman was also talked about a lot, especially as a return specialist. I believe I wrote about the slept-on heroes of that Georgia offense pre-draft in Hardman, Nauta, Godwin, and Galliard. Really thought that all four had something valuable to contribute to an NFL team. If it's not on here, then it's in my email.

When some people pooped on Preston Williams for a poor 40, I stated that I actually liked him and was more interested in his ability to change direction at his size. It sparked a whole debate about whether Metcalf or Renfrow/Stanley Morgan were better. Luckily, I hedged my bets by answering that I liked all three lol. I believe @Jeezla liked Preston Williams and was among the first to point out his ability, but I think he was also disappointed in his athletic testing and cooled off a bit if I remember correctly.

Lots of great WRs from last year, and I think that group may end up growing. Parris Campbell's similarity to Tavon Austin as far as being really fast but not having much success downfield is a bit concerning, but I think he could break out this year. N'Keal Harry still has upside, and could turn things around. Some people had Hakeem Butler as WR1 pre-draft, and I know @SmittyBacall was crushing on him HARD, but he missed his entire rookie season due to an injury. Andy Isabella also missed most of last season, but also showed some flashes when he was on field and gave some reason for optimism moving forward.

Anyways, I know I didn't answer the question. If I had to pick ONE, it would probably be AJ Brown, but Terry McLaurin is RIGHT THERE WITH HIM in my opinion, and both have All-Pro potential. I hyped up Terry in the "Where do you see these guys in 5 years" thread, and I mean it. His talent is real.

Hope you have enough hands for all the pats on the back you are attempting to give yourself VanS Jr.

I don't. Never had great hands.

I just like bragging about my WR evaluation skills. I suck at DL, though. I mean, so far the only things that I've really gotten right were that Josh Allen would be great and that Rashan Gary would have a slow rookie season. As far as track records go, I also have been terrible at evaluating corners, as I really liked Lonnie Johnson's potential as a rookie, for example, or thought that Jaire Alexander and Denzel Ward were both going to bust, while Josh Jackson would be the best CB from that class. I had a TON of misses on them, as far as track records go. Which is crazy because I was a defensive back, but I guess I just can't evaluate them for the pro game. I'm good at QBs. Meh on RBs. Good at OL. Meh at LBs. Good at TEs.

As far as my track record indicates, I am:

Great at evaluating WRs

Good at evaluating QBs, TEs, OL, S

Below average at evaluating LBs, RBs

Terrible at evaluating DL, CBs

To be fair, I AM a graduate of the Scouting Academy, so I do tend to flex my knowledge.

If I have offended you, then I apologize. I also own up to when I was wrong and pay others on the back.

I just like to poke at other mafia guys when I find them posting in other forums. It means I like you.

I feel like Mike Clay has done stuff like that in the past, but it's usually for fantasy preview type stuff. I don't think he keeps an active tally on it. I don't know of anyone who publishes that stuff, but I assume that someone has to track it unless people like Clay are going back and watching the tape specific to those individuals all the time (which is possible). What you are saying is accurate, though while McLaurin's average separation was low, it was actually very similar to Julio's, so its obviously not a major issue.

Yards per route run is  a predictor a lot of people use, and Terry was solid in that regard last year (third for all rookies, despite having low separation totals, as you indicated). He and Deebo were basically tied behind AJ Brown and Hunter Renfrow (who likely may not see enough routes in any given season to really "blow up"). Johnson was much lower in that regard, but I think that will right itself. Since I believe that he will be in a similar situation as last year, I think statistically he has a great chance to blow up with better quarterback play (even if I'm not really sold on Ben coming back and playing well at his age and coming off the injury). Think JJSS from two years ago.

Playerprofiler.com tracks separation.

Give me AJB overall. I know people love Terry and his poor QB play hurt him. Terry's best games came against Rasul Douglas, Ken Webster, and Ronald Darby. Not exactly a murders row. His numbers against those #1CBs that were being touted were much more pedestrian. He was a rookie so that's to be expected.

Looking at it through a fantasy lens and AJB's insane Yard Per Route Run have me hyped for his future.

Have you watched the games against those #1 CBs?  There's a reason Darius Slay said McLaurin was the 2nd toughest WR he faced all year.  And it has nothing to do with stats.

I'm not saying Terry isn't good. I'm simply pointing out that his most productive games were against non-elite CBs. Same could be said for AJB. He struggled to produce against elite competition as well. If you asked me which I'd rather have going forward, its AJB without a second thought. That doesn't mean Terry is bad by any means. I just think AJB's ceiling is going to be even higher.

I know.  I'm saying that the reasoning you're using to knock him is flawed.  To say "He was a rookie so that's to be expected" in regards to his production against top CBs ignores the fact that the production was there for the taking, but his QBs failed him.  In the Lions game, for example, he could have had 150+ yards and 2+ TDs if his passes were on target.  That's no exaggeration.  There's a reason why he was graded as PFF's 6th best WR last year, which separates WR production from QB play.  He was behind only Godwin, Julio, Thomas, Adams and Hopkins.

I understand where you're coming from and I have no problem with anyone putting AJB over Terry, or vice versa.  I'm just saying that looking at his stats against elite CBs in a vacuum ignores the primary reason for his lack of stats.

But that's going to be something he has to work with for his entire career in Washington ;)

Haha, maybe.  Which should knock him in a thread asking which WR will put up the most stats, not which is best.  Otherwise, DeVante Parker would have been the 4th best WR in the league in 2019 ;).
