turtle28
So sad, he was a great OL coach. He’s the greatest OL the Redskins ever had, and may be the best OL coach in NFL history.
naptownskinsfan
This is a blow for sure, but at least it sounds like it was peaceful since we did not hear anything coming. Bugel is one of the best in the NFL as far as offensive line coaches go. I would say its a toss up between him or Alex Gibbs

Bugel is one of the best in the NFL as far as offensive line coaches go. I would say its a toss up between him or Alex Gibbs Scarnecchia from the Pats has put together some pretty remarkable successes too — but Buges certainly is a legendary figure, whether he’s the GOAT or just close to that status. We’ve been talking in the other thread about greatest single-season performance in Redskins history, and I think it would appropriate to throw Buges into the mix for what he did with the Hogs, especially in 1991. Rypien was sacked 7 times that season on 421 pass attempts. That comes out to a 1.6% sack rate, the second lowest season total for a full-time starter ever (behind only 1988 Dan Marino and his legendarily quick release). The remarkable thing about that figure is that Rypien led the league in yards per completion, meaning that the ball wasn’t just coming out super quickly — they were consistently giving him time to work the ball well down the field to deeper targets. Pretty amazing. And on top of the pass protection, add in the fact that they also were 7th in the league in rushing yards and 1st in rushing TDs, despite working with a pretty undistinguished trio of RBs. A remarkable performance. He was a remarkable coach, and a legendary figure in Redskins history. Wishing he and his family the utmost peace.
