Hope you're right. But if that's the case where does it leave Stidham and the last few months of Stid is our guy and such?

Stidham gets to learn behind a mobile version of Tom Brady, a great teammate and leader unlike Tom was at times in 2019, and a former Auburn QB legend who went first overall, has played in a Super Bowl, won a National Championship, an NFL AP MVP, and the Heisman Trophy.

Stidham is not really ready, even if he will be eventually. This is the best news for the NFL, Patriots, us, and Jarrett Studham.

I love the deal based on the fact that it's a low risk, high upside signing at very little cost. My main concern is Cam's health (duh) and his weaponry. Sanu's coming off an injury, Edelman is getting up there, rookie tight ends, etc. Seems like they're putting a lot of eggs in the N'Keal Harry basket again, which is a little concerning. At least he's going to have a strong OL group with continuity.

Side note: having been posting much because work's been so busy, but I hope everyone's staying safe and well.

I thought they might make this move, if the $$ wasn't an issue. I don't think it's an indictment of Stidham either, they just don't really know what they have in him at this point. And you're only gonna push a guy so much when the main competition is Brian Hoyer.

The Athletic's Jeff Howe cites a source that "implied" the Patriots' signing of Cam Newton "has nothing to do with Jarrett Stidham’s performance."

Since Tom Brady departed, the local and national expectation was for Stidham to enter his second season in the NFL as the team's starting quarterback despite only four career pass attempts. Howe recalls Stidham's "impressive" rookie offseason with accuracy that "really jumped out." ESPN's Mike Reiss has even hesitated to name Cam Newton the Week 1 starter, saying this move was a chance to "bolster the depth chart." It would be stunning, even on an incentive-laden minimum contract, if Newton is not the team's best option to open the season against the Dolphins - but those close to the team are not closing the door on Stidham's possibilities.

If that's the case this could be a case of if you have two QBs you have none. If you are not sure of how Stidham will preform the only way to know is reps. Newton will have about three weeks to learn the offense and need reps to show he can run the offense. So who gets the reps?

It's a QB battle, so the guy who is performing better. Reps is a total non-issue IMO. They aren't going to gift Cam more reps to learn the offense. He either learns the offense or he doesn't, it would be counterproductive to give him more before he knows what he is doing. As he learns and performs in practice he will get more and more reps like anyone else would.
