the lone star
LeBron for sure. Sabonis was cool and all, but for today's game? Gimme LeBron. For 90s ball, MAYBE I'll go with Sabonis, but I'll prolly still go with LeBron.
roger murdock
Sabonis was 30 when he started his NBA career and he was a good player but not special and literally never made an NBA all star team. He wasn’t some old lumbering damaged goods by that time. He was still the best player in Europe when he came over it’s just he wasn’t talented or skilled enough to be a top-30 player in the league. For comparison since turning 30 LeBron has 5x all NBA 1st teams and been the best player in the playoffs 5x times. His worst season was last year when he was injured and only made 3rd team all NbA and was much better than Sabonis ever was. I’d take a 30 year old LeBron over a 20 year old Sabonis without thinking twice. if the question was ‘would Sabonis at 20 YO be a top 100 prospect of all time’ I think it would be an interesting discussion and we’d be comparing his strengths weaknesses to guys like Brad Daugherty, Ja Morant etc. comparing him to the best prospect in the history of the sport is absurd. no, not even close. Is David Robinson a top 100 player? Probably a top 30 player and Sabonis absolutely destroyed him.. I will take a 30 year lebron over a 20 yo Le Bron ..Sabonis did already have bad knees by 30.. What I meant was I’d rather have LeBrons entire career post 30 over Sabonis’s entire career post 20 because LeBron is considerably better and it’s not even close. Sabonis was a great player. He’d almost certainly have been an all star and maybe have been one of the 20 or so best players of the 90s if he played then. But we do know he was semi-washed by the time he was 30 and well past his peak OR not as good as the legend has it because he was Beating up players nowhere near as good as him. Realistically your probably getting a better Pao Gasol than anything close to LeBron / Hakeem etc. The truly great players still absolutely dominate in their early 30s unless they have terrible health complications. Tetsujin
How many centers does an allstar team carry? You had Shaq, Hakeem, and Robinson out west during Sabonis's tenure.

My dumb azz didn't even remember that... there was no way Sabonis would have made an Allstar team out west with some GOAT level centers...
