Yeah, but Houston is also giving a 2018 5th. Seattle gets Brown and 2018 5th, Houston gets 2018 3rd and 2019 2nd.

jch1911
I think that puts us at 3 2018 3rd round picks? (Ours, Compensatory [Bouye], Seattle) Coupled with Seattle's 2019 2nd roudn pick.. we should be able to get back into 1st in 2018 if we find a willing partner (New England? Buffalo? Rams?) EDIT: Did I mention I trust Rick Smith more in the 1st round than in the 2nd or 3rd round? Because I trust Rick Smith with a 1st round pick more than 2nd and 3rd round picks

I did put the caveat of finding a willing trade partner..... Also, I said nothing of including our 2019 2nd.. Plus now with 2 2nds in 2019, Rick may feel comfortable offering up a 2019 1st as well.... (2019 1st + 2 2018 3rds could definitely get you into 2018 1st)..... sssooooooo... yeah I'll say it again... we should be able to get back into 1st in 2018 if we find a willing partner (2 2019 2nds, 2 2018 3rds, 2019 1st should be plenty of ammo)

It would have to be a heck of a player though because in theory that's 4 solid rotation/starters. Its hard to trade that though when you are missing your 5th rounder too. Makes for a really light draft class. The comp pick does help make it easier though. A more likely senerio is that we trade those 2 3rd round picks to get into the 2nd round and end up with close to a full draft class. I almost want to draft 3 offensive lineman in the 3rd next year and have a lot of young talent there
tab
why are we trying to get back into the 1st again? isnt the logic to always trade out for extra picks? deshaun is so good we should just eat not having a 1st next year and move on with our life. Lets not drag this into 2019 too

jch1911
(1) we should have money to sign some free agents next year so we don't have to be all-in on our draft picks (2) if there is a good player sitting there undrafted in the bottom of the 1st... it might be option

That's why I liked the amended Brown trade. Don't care about giving up a 5th when its possible we might get 2 6ths.

A lot of people had been missing that point in the trade. I saw a lot of people saying that Houston was getting 3 picks for Brown. I didn't really think anyone in here was missing that, but thought it worth mentioning.

I like the trade overall. I thought Brown looked very good coming back, but his current situations made for an uncomfortable situation. I think Kareem Jackson is now the longest tenured Texan now, right? Correct. Cushing was drafted in 09, year before Jackson. Future ring of honor member, long snapper hall of fame inductee, and fellow Baylor alum Jon Weeks has also been with team since 2010. Here's betting he becomes longest tenure Texan by 2018.
