jetsfan4life51
Isn't it a % of the cap or was that just speculation?

Can be worth more with clauses and such. The interesting part is that this is a 10yr extension. This deal is after his 5th year option. Now where I am kinda clueless on this is that he’s due like 65mill at signing. Is that now? Bc he signed the deal now? Or is it in 2022 when this contract actually starts? This can help the Jets in negotiations with Adams if it pushes paying him until 2022 like this. Mahomes is guaranteed to get $$$ so it is a matter of when he receives real money now or later but salary cap is fluid. Chiefs use heavy roster bonus for future in case if they need to restructure the team cap. In that way, Mahomes gets new larger money as soon as the contract restructure is done and Chiefs' salary cap won't be out of control. It won't matter to Jamal Adams' situation because Joe Douglas doesn't want to give any more new money to him right away.

KingOfNewYork
Yeah Adams wants new money, that’s not happening right now. He’s still on a tangent on social media right now too so he’s not helping his case.
KingOfNewYork
Jedrick Wills got just under 20M guaranteed over 4 years. Becton should see a similar deal, slightly less. I wonder what the payouts will be though. Hopefully he doesn't pull an Adams take a huge load of cash up front.

None can change that.
TheChad
This might sound stupid, but think about it for a second. Why did Mahomes take this $500 million contract? Just... why bother? He will never be able to spend all that money. He, his family, his children, and beyond are all set for lives of never having to even think about money. Hell, that might well be true just from the first signing bonus. Why not take even half of that money, and give the team a significantly better chance of being perenially successful by freeing up that cap space? If you're going to be absurdly rich anyway, why not be rich and win a bunch of superbowls?

Superbowls aren't guaranteed. Your talented team can be plagued by injuries, some team can run the table, or a rival team can come into the next best thing and suddenly even Mahommes is now the #2 talent in the NFL. Tons of reasons why great teams don't win SBs. Longevity isn't guaranteed. This might be the only big pay day for Pat. Might as well get the most out of it. Mahomes did the right thing. And his contract structure helps the team tremendously.

If anything, they will offer vet minimum. I expect the Patriots to look into Njoku.
