champ11
I'm frustrated. I think the organization is on the turnaround in general - but this shows what the lack of real ownership can do. The organization lacks the necessary cash flow. And then you still have Elway thinking he can get his players on discounts. This is not the Manning led Broncos team. You gotta pay your homegrown talent what they are worth. What do y'all think?
broncosfan07
It’s disappointing it didn’t get done but I do think part of it is the uncertainty of what the cap will be next year. Klis sure doesn’t help things though, he’s getting Jim Carrey/Cable Guy stalkerish of Elway now.
broncos67
I know we went back and forth on Twitter about this, but I'll say this. I'd like Denver to get a deal done with Simmons- he's done everything you'd ask a homegrown player to do on and off the field. At the same time, I think the discussions about paying him Top 3 (or more) safety money are crazy because although I think Simmons is very good, I am not sure he's a Top 3 safety. With next year's cap uncertainty, it just adds another layer of complexity as well.

You're paying Kareem Jackson 13m a year. The market gets re-set every year - his market value is 100% a top 1 or top 3 safety contract. I think the cap uncertainty is just some Klis level spin. If you have a real owner you get the deal done

Cutler06
I'm OK with it, feels like this COVID thing has impacted the salary cap and creates uncertainty for the Broncos, who don't know the impact. Simmons is getting a nice raise THIS year but has to feel like his BEST year is going a bit unrewarded, yet the system he is in has much to do with his success, both now and on into the future. In the long run seems best for both sides even though we as fans feel disappointed. What's even more discouraging is Elway and Co haven't signed ONE draft pick and our rookies are supposed to report when ??? germ-x
I go back and forth on this. Simmons was exceptional last year, but prior to that he was at best above average. Fangio’s defense seems to maximize DB talent, so Simmons is probably worth the money over the next 4 years, but realistically he’s only had 1 season of dominant play.
