Jets trade Jamal Adams to Seattle

I think a takeaway the more I've dug into this trade is with this draft capital it gives us ammo. While I think Darnold is a franchise QB and that we just need to continue to gets good players around him on the OL and weapons. If for whatever reason over the next couple season he doesn't show that. We have 2 1sts each draft to try and make a move for a QB we would like in either the 2021 draft or 2022 draft. I don't see us doing this even if he doesn't play well this year. So I really am crossing off making a move for the next draft. But 2022 is a possibility for that. As I stated... I do think he is our guy. But JD created a scenario to where if he isn't. We are in a position to go get a guy now if we want or have to.

Agreed.  The big question is do we trade up, if necessary, to get Lawrence next year or wait until 2022.  I am not sure if there are any QB's in Lawrence's class in 2022.  JD does not strike me a someone who is impulsive or frets.  He is cool and methodical.  I also think JD likes to build a FB team from the inside out which IMHO is the proper way.  But to pass on Lawrence even if you are 80% confident in Sam is difficult.  It will be interesting.

I agree. My point is that we’ve acquired the resources to make a move if he did have to. Which I’d say is less than a 5% chance

If you move up to get Lawrence then this situation will be like the Chargers years ago with Brees and Rivers. The only difference is Brees had injury problems. If you do make this move you have to flip Sam before his contract runs out. I personally would rather go with Sam because he has it all and just needs to put it all together.

Are we that bored that we are talking about a Sam replacement? Even if we have a down year; coaching, weapons, and oline (unproven still) will still be to blame. 2022 is the deciding year for him.. Lets get some weapons next year and see what he can do before we talk about *the next jet QB*

Chargers drafted Rivers because Brees struggled and lost the starting gig.

Yeah, Jets did that with that sole purpose.  Who knows if he will flunk it anyway.  knocks on wood.

I agree with everything you including the bored part.  But prior to the JA trade the idea of moving up to get Lawrence was out of the question.  We now have ammo to do just that.

This is almost reminiscent of the Andrew Luck ordeal.  Indy chose to let Peyton walk (or cut him, I forget) knowing they could draft a generational QB in Luck.  Is Lawrence perceived that way?  Do you risk missing on a "generational" talent when you have the means to get him?  It makes for interesting conversation in these boring football times.

Personally, I am a Sam fan and we should upgrade the OL and WR to allow him truly display his talent or lack thereof.

After the 2017 Rose Bowl, I viewed Darnold as the next “generational” talent at QB. His 2017 season was inconsistent but at the end of the day, he was still considered by many as the top QB prospect in the draft. Right now he’s 7 months younger than Joe Burrow, so unless he regresses, I would agree with you that we shouldn’t be looking at replacing him but solidifying the OL and getting upgrades at WR.
