WindyCity
Eddie Goldman opts out. Luckily the DL is where the Bears are deepest.

JAF-N72EX
The list is getting longer and longer by the minute. Cancel the season and be done with it.
soulman
Not news I wanted to hear but it does offer an opportunity to some others to step into that role starting with Bilal Nichols. Jenkins doesn't seem to have any more to offer than a body who can take up space in a phone booth and maybe protect the ILBs. Abdullah Anderson has shown some ability but he's a bit on the small size for a two gap NT.
topwop1
Greaaaat....there goes the NFL season...more and more players are opting out by the day. This is not good.

Look on the bright side. This would mean that we have seen the last of Mitch in Halas Hall. Which also means no more QB controversy. Which also means Nagy can choose his own QB. QB in the 1st round, a tackle in the 2nd, and a RB in 3rd.

We're still a long way from assuring this can be done safely no matter how many precautions they take. Someone was even talking about quarantining the QBs to keep them safe which in my way of thinking would just be another cluster ****. If the NFL risks losing so many key players the season is gonna look like outtakes from the movie "The Replacements" just shut it down and work out the monetary solutions and we'll call it good. I may miss NFL football but over 1000 people a day dying of COVID makes me a whole sadder because provided I can avoid getting it again and survive I'll still be hear to watch again in 2021. At the rate we're going a quarter million people or more won't be. If I'm an NFL player who by virtue of his contract and prior bonuses is pretty well set for life why do I want to risk a serious illness or death for myself or members of my family? If several QBs decide to opt out they might as well pull the plug. Edited July 29, 2020 by soulman

Correct me if wrong but I don't think that's how it would work. If a full football season is not completed in 2020 then players will not accrue a season on their contracts, meaning Mitch will likely be back in 2021 under the same terms of guaranteed money. Yes, but I don't think Pace/Nagy will pass up a chance to take a QB in the 1st. But I suppose that all depends on how the NFL would reorder teh draft too. Seeing players opt out restore a bit of my faith in humanity after watching so many people fill beaches, clubs, bars, and restaurants for so long with no regard for others.

Wanna take a chance on those guys with a missed year?

Lance, Trask, Newman, Purdy ( I know he has two years too, but was that jump a fluke?), King wakes top show he warrants a draft pick with his transfer, etc. The NFL would expand on the Combine I'm sure, but that's nowhere near the same as game film. A big gamble but one I'd take.
abstract_thought
This is why I advocated trading 2020 draft picks and current players for picks in the 2021 draft.

I don;t know that there will even be a draft in 2021 considering that a lot of universities in the US will not even be having students attend due to COVID and surely if there is no NFL season you can bet that there won't be a college one either. How do you draft players in such a year, especially considering it would have to be a true lottery for the draft order? What a mess this is turning out to be....
