Green Bay Covid Opt Outs: Funchess First.

The WR group will be better. ESB back. MVS healthy. Lazard a part of the offense from the start. Lazard didn't catch a pass until Week 6. Allison was on he field got 60% of snaps last year. Whoever gets those snaps should have little trouble improving on his production.

A thin position is now thinner. I was honestly excited about Funchess...

Really?  What about Funchess is exciting?  He was never going to be a #2 WR and was likely headed for #4. Hope he doesn't regret it.

The fact he was a vet, would be great for the slot, and used in hybrid TE roles and routes as well. He is a decent blocker for a stable of running back. Also reports out of Indy last year before he got hurt were very positive. He was also cheap.

Yeah but he opted out due to covid and gizmo isn't having any of that!

(whispers) if I had to pick one, I would have much rather seen EQ opt out than Funchess.

I don't quite have the optimism that some of the others here have with our WR corps but I guess we will find out in a few months. Lost the only addition in FA that we made to bolster the position. That being said, like some others have said I didnt quite expect Funchess to be a #2. More of a #3, but still could have used the experience and depth.

Funchess sucks so this doesn't hurt that much outside of depth. Hopefully Lazard steps up.

? His best season was 63 rec, 840 yards and 8 tds.

In 2019, our No. 2 and 3 guys (MVS and Lazard) combined for 61 rec, 929 yards and 5 tds.

In 2018, our No. 2 and 3 guys (Cobb and MVS ) combined for 76 rec, 964 yards and 4 tds.

Not sure how this is remotely relevant. Demaryius Thomas had 83 catches for 949 yards in 2017, which was Funchess' best year. Doesn't make him good now and certainly doesn't mean the rest of our core is good either.

Thomas was 30 years old when he had that season in 2017.

Funchess was 23.

That is why Funchess is/was intriguing.  He still has youth on his side.  In NFL years, he should be in his prime right now.  Age 26.

At age 26, Demarius had 92 for 1430 and 14 TDs.  Second year of a great 4 year span for him.

Not saying Fun is at that level as a player, not even near it.  But, his highest career output should be the next 2-3 seasons.

He's also coming off injury, just like Thomas.

So is St. Brown, but he's the popular break-out name being thrown around here for some reason. Bottom line is, based on statistics and experience, there isn't another WR on our squad (17 excluded) who you can say is outright "better" than Funchess. And that has nothing to do with Funchess being a great player, on the contrary, it merely points out the lack of verified production we have in the WR room. It's 17 and group of "what if's." Funchess would have been the only guy in that room other than 17 who has had two consecutive NFL seasons of catching more than 26 passes. That's a very low bar.

I would say the difference is St. Brown is kind of unknown and exciting. Funchess has had one outlier decent year in five seasons. Now by the time he actually suits up, if he doesn't get cut by then, Funchess will have played one game in two years. The only thing he brought was depth. Again, that has nothing to do with the rest of the groups talent level. Funches sucking doesn't mean Kumerow and MVS don't also suck.
