And asking players to play in Spring 2021 and then Fall 2022 may have more potential risk than playing football this football, as having essentially no break between seasons can potentially be dangerous. But the most influential players for forming a players union (Trevor Lawrence, etc.) will be gone.
pf9
It's only a matter of time before the rest of FBS postpones
pf9
To cut down on risk of injury, they could allow only draft-eligible players to play in the spring season - and underclassmen must make their draft decision before the season begins. pf9
Of course, if all of FBS and FCS decide to move their seasons to the spring, it could allow the chance for everyone in FBS to play their intended opponents for 2020, and for FCS teams to play most of their intended opponents (with sub-FCS levels cancelling their seasons, these gaps would have to be filled with more non-conference games between 2 FCS teams). pf9
So far 53 FBS schools have opted out of playing in the fall. There are 130 FBS schools. All it would take for a complete postponement is another 12 schools opting out. Having all of the American or C-USA opt out of the fall will be enough. pf9
Plus, if some Power 5 conferences are adamant on fall play while others are waiting until spring, then the CFP can't be played. Surely the ACC, Big 12 and SEC will take that into account.
Blazer026
I just can’t see them playing in the spring and fall 2021.

BigD88
This is all Ohio State’s fault. They cheated fate with the Justin Fields waiver. It’s like nobody has ever seen Final Destination. One way or another, Justin Fields was only going to play one season for Ohio State.

Bad things don't truly happen to OSU, so they will come out of this spectacularly somehow.

Mox
At least a few conferences seem to be moving forward. Good for them.

There will be outbreaks then cancellations as a result. It's really a dumb move but it's their choice.
