Here's why Pittsburgh signing Jadeveon Clowney makes sense.

It's more likely for Baltimore to sign Clowney, because they picked up more cap space when they sent Earl Thomas packing.

But, here's why Pittsburgh needs to quit clinching their wallets and make an offer.

Bud Dupree played them so bad in 2019 and didn't even hide it.  He under performed for 4 straight seasons until he somehow convinced Rooney and Colbert to pull the 5th year option and tag him.

He just needs to go.  He had 11.5 sacks last season and that was giving his all.

Jadeveon Clowney, given a 3-4 defensive scheme that fits his style, could easily exceed that number.  He's by all means a more talented pass rusher than Dupree is, and for Pittsburgh, making a move like this is a definite upgrade.

What makes it tough for Pittsburgh is that Baltimore is just as equally capable of offering Clowney the 3-4 scheme that will cater to him.

Baltimore is in a position in which they might not have to trade much away, but they don't need Clowney.  They have great players like Calais Campbell, Matthew Judon, and Patrick Queen will be a beast in the middle.

It's in their best interest to save the cap space.  Pittsburgh's going to need some help on the line, especially after they had to trade Javon Hargrave earlier in the year.

Baltimore could easily maximize the potential of their defensive line by signing Clowney, but this is more about Pittsburgh not allowing Baltimore to acquire another great player.

Frugal Steelers not taking enough interest in higher profile players that become available has hurt them in the past.

Is....is anyone gonna tell him about Clowney? Somebody’s gotta tell him. I’m gonna tell him.....

Clowney has 3 sacks last year, 12 in the last 2, and had never gone over 9.5.

Clowney and Dupree are the Spider-Man meme.

So... he is a good player but his production sucks... right... got it..

You can't just look at sacks.

Clowney's one of the quickest pass rushers off the football in the league.  He has incredible response off the line for his size.

He definitely has more overall QB pressures than Dupree ever had.

Sign him of 1 year vet minimum.  Otherwise his is Bud Dupree with more pressures and .5 more sacks in 1 less year.

He is one of the better run-stopping DE/OLB in the league but those guys do not make much  His future should be a LDE in a 4-3  the kind that make 5-8M per year.  Perhaps he should consider moving to 3 tech to make more money.  No one in their right mind should pay Clowney top pass rusher money when he is average as a pass rusher.  I would rather save that money for TJ Watt who is a top pass rusher.
