I will read between the lines, clearly there were off field issues as well as he didnt learn the playbook and struggled to adapt (this the organisation has to take blame for as well).

Mayock's statement is just PR from the team not wanting to appear to assassinate the young mans character. Probably the 'bad influence' issues were leaked by an 'unnamed source'. Both parties are not being totally honest IMO.

FWIW, there were Vegas fans on some of the Facebook fan pages saying they ran into Bowden Jr at the card tables with girls on his arm when he wasn't supposed to be mingling with the populace. Take it with a grain of salt, of course, but they were saying that he looked like he was getting a bit too involved with the Vegas night life.

Which echoes the reports from the Athletic. It's still pretty incredible to me how much we've slacked on acquiring a quality backup RB.

That's really interesting to hear, clearly we haven't heard all the details but if he was in fact doing that maybe it was breaking the teams Covid rules aswell. They really played on that aspect on the Hard Knocks episodes.

I'm not going to judge a book by its cover but he doesn't seem to be the highest character guy. He has 70 tattoos including a number of face tattoos, he got into a fight before their bowl game in 2019 and pushed one of their coaches, he was wearing about $20,000 worth of jewelry before their bowl game despite being a college student, and the house he was staying at this offseason was raided by the DEA.

Combine that with reports that he was seen partying in Vegas, was reportedly not grasping the playbook, and was more interested in his newly gained wealth than anything else, it makes sense as to why we decided to move on.

I was listening to a podcast and another interesting point they made was that the weird draft cycle probably effected our ability to get a real gauge on his character. We only had a brief 15 minute meeting with him at the combine and then no contact after that. In a regular draft cycle we could've brought him to the facility for a meeting which would've given our front office a lot more time to evaluate him one on one in person.
