is this a case of prospect fatigue? Guy was hoped as miguel cabrera, now after a rough first season hes not even a top 10 organizational prospect?

It’s ironic because Miggy has always been a fat piece of ****.

Lifetime ban is pretty harsh tbh, he should sue.

It's not universal.  He's still a very highly regarded player for many.  Maitan gained a good bit of weight and didn't hit the ground running as a 17 year old stateside.

And there are tons of kids who become irrelevant once they grow into their adult bodies.  Hopefully this was just a kid who's learning about proper conditioning and has an innate talent that will get him back on track.

Otherwise I'm not a fan of thrusting 16 year olds into top prospect lists.

Yeah this is beyond excessive for what he actually did.

Nobody liked him, that's why he's not allowed back in. But he didn't do anything the other GM's aren't all doing.

This is basically like the A-Rod suspension. Yes, other people cheated and he didn't do anything unprecedented but he did it worse than everyone else and a lot of people didn't like him. He's the perfect candidate to be made an example of. They're not going to discipline every GM but they'll discipline the worst offender so severely that others are scared off.

That's obvious.  And I am with you on not placing 16 year old IFAs on top prospect lists.  But my post was simply a response to the post about prospect fatigue.  There are still many out there that think quite highly of Maitan and his abilities.  Not everyone shares the belief that he is a reclamation projection, as some have suggested.

Also, every team not in the penalty box for the 2018 IFA period has been given the opportunity to use their 2018 money on these guys, even if they are still technically in the penalty box.  This means IFA heavy hitters in the Cubs and Dodgers will have the opportunity if they so choose.

Not really an appropriate way to enforce the rules, but MLB has always been a bunch of clowns in that respect going back many, many years.
