Team:

We open the 2020 season looking to dominate our opponents all year long. We have many new faces this season whom we believe will lead us on our quest to capture the Bizz Bowl. This week we face a very good divisional rival in Antarctica, and will look to slow down an explosive offense led by Bizz Bowl Champion Lamar Jackson.

Offensive Plan of Attack:

We want to play a ball control offense against this team to keep their offense off of the field and our defense fresh. We will run a balanced attack and target some key areas of weakness we see on the Antarctica defense, being their #2 DT and Nasir Adderley at S. We focus on mistake free football, and aim to control the time of possession.

Offensive Formations:  (2TE 35%, 3 Wide 30%, 2RB 25%, 4 Wide 10%)

Our base offense this week will be our 2TE set. We really like our young TE tandem of Noah Fant and Dawson Knox and view them as a strength of our offense. We will rotate our backs based on a percentage share across all formations which we will break down later in the game plan. The next most frequent formation we run will be our 3 wide formation with 1 RB and 1TE and we will rotate Fant and Knox in this formation.  In our 3 wide, we will have Henry Ruggs come in as the Z and Preston Williams as the X on the outside with Tyler Boyd moving to the slot. Our next formation is our 2back sets which will include Alec Ingold as the FB paired with a RB about half of these sets, with two RB and no FB the other half. In our 4 wide 1 RB set, Bryan Edwards comes on the field as the Z with Preston at X and Ruggs and Boyd in the slots.

Running Game:

We are going to deploy a running back by committee with our young backs and the veteran James White. We are looking to split the carry percentage between Jonathan Taylor, JK Dobbins, and Antonio Gibson at 30% each with James White getting the remaining 10%. White will be a bigger focal point in the passing game and in our 4 Wide set. We are looking to pound the rock early and often and our committee will keep our backs fresh. We will run a 50/50 split of zone and power man blocking schemes. We will feature in those schemes, stretch, slam, cutback, counters, tosses, and power runs. Our TE’s will be great assets on stretches and power plays, as well as seal blocks on the edge, working double combos onto the linebackers and safeties. We will run the ball up the middle with Ingold as our FB leading the way on some plays. We will attack the DT2 gap quite often on our runs. We will also neutralize Buckner in two ways, one pertaining to our man blocking scheme, and one pertaining to our zone scheme. The first being a combo block when we utilize our man blocking scheme with our center and his play side guard. Then peeling the C or G off onto the linebacker depending on the run play. We can block the DT2 one on one with ease. The second way we will neutralize Buckner is to take advantage of the up-field rush of Buckner and the ends by running counters behind them as well as gashing gaps inside of their over pursuit with our zone and stretch plays. When we have 2 RB’s in we will utilize this balance to provide us options to attack in the running game with either back. In our 4 wide set with the defense spread out we will have some quick zone reads inside for our RB. Also Ruggs will get an end around or two this game. We know we can control the line of scrimmage against Antarctica.

Passing Game:

My team has always been known as a team that thrives on combo routes. These routes allow us to attack all levels of the defense allowing our quarterback to find the best matchups versus zone or man coverage. An example is a drag coming from the outside receiver with the slot or Y (TE) running a corner or seam. Dragging either the safety down to the drag creating an opening behind the safety on the corner or seam route or the corner route carrying coverage with it creating space underneath on the drag. Another combo with this is the RB swinging to that side as the corner and drag clear out coverage in zone, or the RB is in open space on a LBer in man with room to run after the catch. This is an example of one of the combos we will run. We have a better QB in Matt Ryan than we had all of last season and his experience and poise will allow us to get after defenses. With a heavy run game plan this week we will work a lot off of play action utilizing our tight ends in space. The speed and size of our tight ends will be a mismatch for the Antarctica defense. We will stretch the seam and attack Adderley in his zone and man assignments. Antarctica only has two safeties currently on NFL rosters and only one in Harris has proven anything. We will utilize the route running savvy of Tyler Boyd and the size of Preston Williams to create mismatches for our offense. Williams will be a fade and post up mismatch for us in the red zone as well. In 3 wide sets we will look to utilize the speed and big play ability of Henry Ruggs on some screens as well as keeping the defense honest with some deep shots as well as combo routing with Boyd in the slot to his side. We will utilize our backs as pass protectors but also as receivers out of the backfield. Antonio Gibson and James White will see the most work as pass catchers out of the backfield looking for mismatches and providing security blankets for Ryan. In our 4 wide sets we will really look to spread the defense out with our combo routes. We believe we will get some good matchups out of this set.

Defensive Plan of Attack:

We are facing a great offense to kick off the season with the NFL MVP and last season’s Bizz Bowl champion QB on his new team. Discipline focused football will be our bread and butter. Making sure we play assignment sound football has been our focus in practice this week to eliminate errors and contain Lamar and Saquon and not be out of place on RPO’s. We believe there are weaknesses on the O-line with newly signed DJ Fluker just added this week and either Pat Elflien starting or a Tackle playing out of position at the other spot G spot (which will be difficult with Isaiah Wilson being arrested for a DUI Friday Night), to go with Cam Robinson at T. With only 1 TE on the roster and him being a rookie, as well as no FB we expect Antarctica to try and spread us out. This is where our assignment focused football will be key, and we play as an 11 man unit at all times.

Defensive Formations:

Our Base D will be a nickel this week against any 3 wide sets and a 4-3 under against any 2 wide and less sets. Our Linebackers in our Nickel Package will be Joe Schobert at MLB and Kyle Van Noy at WLB. Kenneth Murray will be our SLB in 4-3 sets, but will also see some time subbing for Van Noy on some 3rd and long plays. Bryce Callahan will man the nickel for us. Against any four wide sets, Ceedy Duce will play the Dime. Against an empty set CJ Henderson moves to Dime and Ceedy plays up over the fifth receiving option replacing Xavier Woods in the formation. In all sets Woods plays up in the box, and peels off into his deep half when in Cover 2. Our base Dline will consist of Trey Flowers and Sam Hubbard at the ends, and Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh on the interior. We will rotate our dline to keep them fresh, and on clear passing downs and situations Ed Oliver will play UT as Vea and Suh split time at NT on these downs and situations.

Pass Defense:

Antarctica has a very good group of receivers, and we look forward to matching up with them with our underrated group of DB’s. We will be playing primarily zone with our defenders facing Lamar, this will assist us in being able to create turnovers as well as be in position against Lamar’s scrambling. A small percentage of Man will be played but the Cover 3 and Cover 2 looks will be our primary go to this game. In the Cover 3 Jessie Bates will play deep middle. We will play a press look in all coverages to disguise pre snap reads. Joe Schobert will be our play caller and play the middle of the field as a spy on Lamar but any route that passes his face he will be ready to disrupt it. In Man against three wide, Van Noy has the rookie TE, Woods has Saquon (as we will not underestimate him out of the backfield by playing a non-DB on him), the three corners have their respective men, Schobert has eyes on Lamar, while Bates has single high making sure nothing beats us deep. The same goes for man against four wide or five wide with the personnel changes mentioned in Formations. Our Pass rush will come from our Dline, with some blitzes from Van Noy when we are in zone, mixed in. In some 3rd and long situations Murray will sub in for Van Noy and we will utilize his speed in coverage or on a blitz. We will not be overly aggressive with our rush, while collapsing the pocket around Lamar to keep him contained. We believe our rushers will get great pressure against a primarily makeshift offensive line.

Run Defense:

The Key to this game for us is being able to control the clock on offense and stop their run game on defense. We have two very good run stoppers starting in Vea and Suh, and a very good penetrator in Oliver rotating in. We know we can control the line of scrimmage against their interior line. Our ends are very good against the run also and will be able to beat their man to make plays in the run game. We believe with the interior bottled up we will force runs to our ends and they are not to over pursue and play at home and contain everything to their side. This will allow our LBers and Safeties to come down and make stops. We want to keep our line fresh to make sure our guys aren’t wearing down and losing their assignments. Shaq Lawson and Jordan Jenkins will be rotational backups to Flowers and Hubbard while Rasheem Green will be a fifth option at end as well as a rotational pass rush option on the interior on clear passing downs. Contain Lamar and Saquon, which we believe we have the personnel, scheme, and coaching to do so, and we win this game.

SQUATCH STRONG!

Antarctica Katabatic Beasts

Motivation:  It's a brand new season and Lamar Jackson (LJ) has joined the Katabatic Beasts to try and bring the championship and ever lasting glory home to Antarctica.

Offensive Base Formation: We love the shotgun pistol formation, 2 WR split to the strong side with 1 WR to the weakside and the other WR used for motion. This formation gives plenty of opportunity and space for Barkley and LJ to run and Godwin and Diggs to get open for big plays.  To take full advantage of the pistol formation, we will be rotating the WR4 in and out with our RB's and TE to provide different looks to Sacremento's D.

AP_19321773361658.jpg

Tempo: This week we will be running normal tempo offense.  We got weapons everywhere and blockers to help the run and pass.

Playcalling Distribution:

60% run

15% pass

15% playaction pass

10% RPO

Personnel Changes: no major changes

Running: Our team is built to run and we will looking to ride LJ and Barkley early and often to set the tone against Sacremento.  Our base formation this week will be the Shotgun Pistol formation.  We expect to be in our base formation 50% of the time and spinkle in other various formations throughout the game.  We will run variants with Gurley or Kmet as a motion man to be a lead blocker for SB or be a key piece in the option game. Being in the pistol, our runs will be spread out to both sides of the ball, keeping the Sacramento's defense off balance.

On inside plays we plan on motioning our WR4/RB/TE down inside and allow him to become a defacto fullback and clean up anyone left in the holes allowing SB to burst through with vengeance on his mind.  We have large and angry men up front ready to open the holes for our horse to stroll on through to the endzone.  We will be using the inside run just enough to keep the D off balance, allowing the option and outside runs to break off big plays.

That brings us to the large portion of our playcalling.  We will be running a good bit a option and read option plays, as well as allowing LJ to check into and out of them.  If the setup is there LJ will be relied upon to use his legs and eyes to attack the opponents DE's and exploit them to the fullest.

Passing: Sacremento won't be able to stop the run and the pass, this week is gonna be fun fellas.  Having one of the best QB's in the game to throw Diggs and Godwin (both top 15 wide receivers) is going to beat a lot of people or open things up even more for SB and LJ.   Stefon Diggs pairs nicely with Godwin who dominates running slants and crossing routes.  We will use a bunch of crossing routes and slants early on in the game which we will shift to double moves on the outside later on and look to catch Sacremento's DB's cheating.  This is the bread and butter type of routes that Godwin was brought in to run.  Diggs has been huge at catching the deep ball and we expect a couple more of them this week.  If Sacremento wants to double him it just leaves Godwin open to crush their spirits.  Being extremely balanced and with weapons galore, we will keep their D guessing so much that they won't be able to stop us.  If they try and load the box on early downs we will shift more to passing plays and playaction passes.  We also won't forget about Barkely here, getting him in screens and check downs will be the key to keeping the chains moving.

Playaction and RPO's: we will be using these to catch Sacremento crowding the box and cheating up to help stop the run game.  Diggs and Godwin are ready to burn Sacremento when they load up and jump in to stop Barkley and LJ.   We will also use our slot receiver to sprinkle in the RPO's as the linebackers start to cheat more and more to help try and stop the run game.

Defense Base Formation: 4-3 defense, switching to Dime and Nickel in passing downs and dependent upon ingame situations. We will also use more 4-4 sets on running downs and short yardage plays.

Formation usage:

4-3: 35%

Nickel: 35%

Dime: 15%

4-4: 15%

Defensive Base coverages:

Man: 35%

Cover 3 - 25%

Quarters -20%

Tampa 2 - 20%

Personnel Changes:  no major changes

Playstyle: Regardless of who Sacremento starts at QB, we plan to attack them in roughly the same manner.  Lots of blitzs and exotic blitzs will be thrown at Sacremento.   Clark, JPP and the LB's will have a field day with getting to the QB.  We will look to switch our coverage up a lot and try and fool them pre-snap and confuse them enough to allow our all-pro edge rusher or blitzing LB to get pressure on him and get the sack.

As for the run game.  We will be sticking to our 4-3 D and using our 4-4 run stopping D to stuff them at the line with our strongest asset taking over the game.  Run blitzes early and often will help to combat anything they may get form the run.  Sacramento will have no chance to beat us with the run and their passing game will struggle against blitz heavy defense that either QB will struggle to have time to sit in the pocket and throw because his receivers are not getting open in enough time.

Tl;dr: Riding Barkley and LJ early but switching to our passing game to keep things balanced and Sacremento guessing.  Once they are in shock from Barkley/LJ and our WR's, we hit em with the playaction bombs to Diggs and slants from Godwin and screens and check downs to Barkley.  Defense will be pretty balanced formations and coverages.  The formations will be 4-3, Nickle, Dime, and 4-4 (on early downs and running situations).  The coverages will be Man, Cover 3, Quaters, and Tampa 2.  We will rely pretty heavily on run, pass and exotic blitzs to attack either QB that starts.  One is old and struggles with pressure while the other is too young to handle it.

I love the way the Beasts are utilizing Lamar with their playcalling, but also like the way Sac plans on playing zone and keeping him in front of them.  I think the Squatches made an error not going 3 wide with Ruggs as Okudah was known to be out and could have looked at more 3 or 4 WR sets against lesser talent.  Overall I dont love Ryan's weapons outside Fant, who looks pretty awesome, and the lack of a legitimate RB hurts for balance.  GOing Antarctica.

I went 3 wide and 4 wide 40% of my game plan with Ruggs
