Artemis Fowl

really good movie mixing action, good characters, and humor.

i hope they make a sequel.

Josh Gad being cast against type is a good decision. Hes really good as the thief dwarf

now, gonna watch National Treasure for the first time. As a crazy Nic Cage fan, i expect to be disappointed

That one's not bad. Most of Nics movies are pretty trash though.

i decided to go with An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn instead

i highly recommend it.

The first 40 minutes is a masterpiece, and toneally perfect. Wonderful score starting out

i laughed many times.

gets kind of bogged a bit in the middle, but A. Plaza is perfect in this, as is Jermaine Clement.

the Rocketeer

good setpieces, and some good old fashioned characters and storytelling

Loved this movie as a kid. Watched it a few months ago and it's still fun.

I watched The Hunger Games series over the last few days. Catching Fire is absolutely amazing.

Is the movie as generic as it feels like it would be?

In a good way. It's easily a top 4 Nic Cage movie imo. Maybe it's because i had such low expectations, but I really enjoyed it when it came out. It has rewatchability as well.

For reference, my top 4 Nic Cage movies in no order: Face Off, The Rock, Lord of War, and National Treasure.

I haven't seen the first three you listed. I'll add them to my list.

But this isn't a so bad they're good performance. It's just a good performance.
