Also unpopular opinion but the pass rush problems aren’t all the fault of the team. Russell Wilson’s height limits certain aspects of the pass game like quick throws inside the numbers in order to beat a blitz.

This is 100% accurate. He absolutely shares some of the blame with regards to sacks / hits.

This whole stance that Russell’s side has taken is glossing over one major component of the equation: his legacy can’t compare to Brady.

If you want what Brady’s got, win what Brady’s won.

This is a bad take, for many reasons.

Does Brees have the same issues?  Or does simply has a better OL 🤔

Brees? I don't think that Brees has that issue at all in recent years. But that's a byproduct of a few things. His passing game is vastly different and predicated more on shallow routes. Wilson typically is among the league leaders in how long he holds on to the ball and Brees is on the opposite end of the spectrum. And yes, Brees had the better offensive line. It's way things aren't always black and white.

It's not really a knock on Wilson to say that he's to blame for some of the sacks / hits. You can say the same about Rodgers. They are always trying to make something happen. Wilson runs around back there like his head is on fire sometimes.

**edit**

sorry, I just realized that you were probably referencing the height. I wasn't really thinking about that part of what he said regarding Wilson. More or less that some of the sacks / hits can be attributed to his play style.

Name a few. The number of QBs who get to hire their OC is zero. The number of QBs who get to make free agent signings is one, and he’s the greatest QB of all time by a large margin, who takes less money on the cap specifically to bring in guys who know how to win rings. There’s not much other recent precedent for QBs asserting themselves into front office and management decisions that I can think of, other than Watson who’s also burning the thing to the ground.. What makes Wilson so special that he should set the “new norm” of players hiring their own coaches and building the roster?

Wilson is the “bad guy” here IMO.

Wilson to the Raiders doesn't make much sense. We are far from a top 5 QB away from being a SB threat. Watson yes, soon to be 33 year old Wilson no.

Plus the capital to get him would be insane. I'm fine w/ using it to grab a defense. We can content w/ Carr as we did this season. If we get a legit defense (maybe even just "good") we can beat anyone and make a serious run IMO.

I don't know if Ciara still performs, but that could be a slight influence in favor of wanting to go to Vegas. Getting residency in a casino could be hundreds of thousands per show or millions over a few year deal.

edit: Russell Wilson's wife Ciara if it isn't clear

The entire situation is kind of bizarre. Obviously Houston wants to work with Miami / Jets because they have the best assets to offer. Watson only has to hold out until the draft to render that moot if he doesn't want to go to either, but the Texans aren't under any obligation to trade him for the entire year if he doesn't want to play....not like he's going to lose value a year down the line. That way they can see who ends up with a top pick next year and make a trade with them.

I guess so.

No, Brees doesn’t have the same problem. He does have a better OL but the way he plays is completely different from Wilson. Old article but I think some of it still holds true.

Quote

A 5' 11" man cannot always see over 6' 5" offensive linemen or 6' 3" defensive linemen with outstretched arms. With Wilson, it’s evident every week on film. And so the 5' 11" man must move around and create new lines of vision. Drew Brees, at 6-foot, has mastered this in New Orleans. He does it from the pocket. Wilson, with tremendous athleticism and an uncanny ability to make strong throws on the move (right or left), does it by running around. So the difference is, with Brees a coach can draw plays the same way he would for a traditional QB. Brees’s platform and launching point change by a matter of inches and feet. Wilson’s change by a matter of yards. Many, many yards.

The remarks Russ made earlier this offseason were pretty surprising. You don't hear that publicly from a franchise QB, especially one who seems to always end his interviews with "Go Hawks!".

I figured it would be similar to Matt Stafford, there were rumors of him wanting out and wanting to go to California last offseason, but it took a year for that to materialize. But maybe this speeds up and happens this offseason.
