We all know that the Cowboys are at a level below where they should be in terms of w/l. Gotta put it on the QB. Sorry Matts It's misleading cause Dak usually only needs 3 or so points to win a game in the fourth quarter, when you increase it to needing 7 or more points, he falls off the wagon and is horrible, throwing picks and fumbling everywhere. No clutch gene at all.
Matts4313
Quote Since 2011, 76.2% of teams with 9 or more wins had a higher pass-to-run ratio in a neutral game script than their overall ratio. Meaning, they were more pass-heavy when games were close. Because when they got a lead, they ran. That number gets more and more significant as you increase the number of wins. Among teams with 11 or more wins, the percentage is 85.1%. 12 or more, you’re looking at 93.2%. At 13 wins, every single team since 2011 was more pass-heavy in neutral game scripts. So, if you’re winning, you’re running more. If you’re running more, you’re getting more rushing yards. And it works the other way, too. This is why so many people talk about correlation and causation when someone makes these absurd statements about top rushing teams.
Hukos
I agree with the tweet, but the people in the responses literally didn't understand the tweet they were responding to. "The best teams run the ball, that's why the teams leading in passing are all sitting at home" take is like... it's not entirely wrong but it completely missed the point. If you have success throwing the ball in the first half, you'll be up a lot of points, and thus you can use the running game to put a chokehold on the game. You don't use the running game to score points (if you want to score points, you should pass, pass, and pass some more), you use it to end the game. Running the ball is bad for scoring points but very good for ending the game! Teams that are winning are going to be in this mode a lot, thus they'll rack up rushing attempts and rushing yards and not as many passing yards. The teams that are leading the league in passing yards but missed the playoffs are in that spot because they were never in "clock kill" mode like the teams in the playoffs were. They were able to rack up those passing yards (often in hopeless situations) because of that. In the modern NFL, the name of the game is efficiency not volume. If those teams that missed the playoffs were able to get leads more often (usually with a better defense), they wouldn't be throwing as much and they'd just be running the ball to clock games.

Hukos
Passer Rating isn't the best statistic ever (there's a lot of things it fails to track, such as sacks) but this is interesting nonetheless. Shame we never had a Ryan/Brees playoff game.
animaltested
Quote On 53 plays this season, Seattle’s win probability in a given game either increased or decreased by at least 15%. That wasn’t just the most in the NFL. It was leagues beyond the norm. The league average team had only 26.6 plays that created that much change, or around the Seahawks. The next closest team, the 49ers, had 47, or a difference of more than 10%. They also had more plays with large swings at even higher thresholds, such as 20%, than any other team. The numbers are clear: Seattle is the opposite of even flow. from Fieldgulls As any Sehawk fan will tell you, this season has been a wild, WILD ride. McDaniels left for the Colts and then came back a couple years back. I have no idea about the conditions of that new deal. BB also did not let Nick Casserio out of his contract this year. Contracts mean something. McDaniels could still run off to Cleveland, bring in Brady, and sign AB if he wanted. Baker could play the Steve Young role for a year or two.
