Finished 1776 and now I am obsessed with the American Revolution.  First, why in TF is there like one American Revolution movie in the past 20 years and like 97 WW2 movies over that same period?

Cause our great revolutionist were lead by slave owners. It's been a taboo thing for awhile now that men of their times should be held to today standards. I mean there was a literal movement just a few years ago about tossing out the Declaration of Independence and rewriting because the people who wrote it had slaves. It would get bad press. Hell Passion of the Christ had not even gotten to theaters and everyone and their mother in Hollywood bashed it. There is a very strong bias against anything Hollywood doesn't believe in.

However, I plan on reading the Ender's Game books soon. Anybody recommend them?

Bought The Ender Quartet recently. Going to knock those out over the course of the next month or so. The first two seem like fast reads but Xenocide seems like it's going to take a minute lol.

I never finished the Harry Potter series and never read book 7 because I never wanted it to end. But I think it’s time I go through them and finish them. I finished book 1 last night. Forgot how much shorter they were than other books I’ve read recently lol

They are crazy fast reads. I read all 7 books in like 10 days.

Fun let me play! Malcolm X was a pimp for a time, so he would be Me Too'd these days. Therefore everything he ever did should be disregarded and he should be un-personed immediatley. Concurrently, Spike Lee should be blacklisted for propping up someone that was unfair and abusive to women. He too should be un-personed and his film Blakkklansman should be removed from contention for the Oscars because of this.

I'm not sure this is the best explanation.  It's probably definitely why we haven't gotten a biopic on Washington, but an American Revolution movie does NOT need to focus on slave owners as heroes.

John Adams did not own a single slave and was one of if not the most influential founding fathers.  Benjamin Franklin was a slave owner who owned 2 slaves in his entire life, and he became an abolitionist during the American Revolution.  There's plenty of historical context to suggest that it was the American Revolution that led to him (and others) becoming abolitionists.

Slave owners of the time don't have to be propped up as heroes in a story on the American Revolution.

Israel (Old Put) Putnam freed his slaves before the onset of the American Revolution.

These are just facts off the top of my head, so I'm certain more Founding Fathers and heroes of the war could be focused on in order to make a movie on the American Revolution.

No, I agree with you. My comment was mostly in jest at those who dont believe in grey when looking back at history.

I presume they dont make many Revolutionary War movies because the money isnt there. These would be films that rely on an informed audience, or at least on interested in history. People would rather watch repetitive Super Hero narratives. Adding in the fact that Revolutionary War movies likely would require a large budget, and there just isnt a studio willing to take the gamble. I think the gamble would fail too. Its just not what people are interested in these days.

Alexander Hamilton too!

(though there's some debate as to whether he owned slaves, there's no definite evidence that he did)

To your first point, eh maybe.

I think you hit it on the head with your last point - the studio's just don't want to gamble.

They were men of their times though. Was it right? No, but then again a film about Alexander the Great was made about how he was a great visionary and they still openly practiced pedophilia back then.

Making the film about these men does not mean you condone what they did, but directors still find a way to skirt around these issues like with the Ancient Greeks when they want too.

That's true.  Every story doesn't have to have a hero.

Though admittedly it probably does help ticket sales.
