New England Patriots vs. Las Vegas Raiders - Gillette Stadium

Should be another good game. Their offensive matchups are very similar to Seattle IMO. The big caveat here is Derek Carr is less mobile than Wilson but he isnt Tom Brady either. Stopping the run and Darren Waller will be the task of the day. Dugger killed it last week and the combination of him and Joejuan Williams may be able to eliminate Waller, but that's a big task. Our offensive game plan should be similar to last week. Things to look for:

Do we get back to the run game with James White's potential return to the line up?

Does Sony bounce back or do we start going into another direction?

What is Dugger's role this week after appearing to supplant Williams as the TE/Box safety?

Will the offensive line continue it's strong start to the season?

Can Harry take another step forward? Does Jules dominate targets again despite seeing 10% less snaps than Byrd or Harry last week?

Izzo played on 95% of snaps last week, does that continue or do the young bucks finally get a shot?

This should be a fun one boys! Can't wait to see how our team responds after a short week and coming off a big win.

Here's some things you need to know about the Raiders:

  • Our running game is one of the best. JJ is a freaking tank and I'm stoked to see us finally start using him in the passing game too.
  • Our O-line is beastly, however we are battling some health issues. Your old pal Trent Brown is awesome when healthy but that's never the case. He's played 3 downs for us this season. Incognito is also a total stud but went down with an Achilles injury which is TBD.
  • Waller is a top tier TE. He is the fastest TE I have seen and his catch radius is A+. He is our true #1 WR.
  • Our WR corp is hella young and inexperienced. Ruggs is battling a nagging injury and we've seemingly been using him as more of a decoy the past 1.5 games.
  • Our D is a joooooke. Our pass-rush is non existent. Ferrell looks like a bust, Crosby is having a sophomore slump and our interior is soft as baby crap.
  • Our LB corp is improved but our D Captain and green dot wearer Kwiatowski was out last game with a pec injury. We need him back because the backup Morrow is a major liability.
  • FS Erik Harris is our worst starter. Throw at him all day and you'll win.
  • Our secondary is also super young. Abram is a stud and a missle. He will light someone up on Sunday. The rest are inconsistent young guns who can be exploited.

26-21 Patriots

Reason:

Patriots have a Top 2 Defense in the League and it's in New England. Top 3 Tough place to play and a East coast game. Yes I do realize no crowd, but will still be super tough. And not only do the Pats have a Top 2 Defense and the best CB in the game, but Cam Newton looks really good this year. I personally made a Top 10 MVP Candidate Thread in NFL Gen, and Cam is currently #10 for me. He even looks more accurate than ever before.

Gruden is going to have to be more creative than ever before. Bellichick is the master of taking players out of the game. He will probably render Waller and Jacobs obsolete, and also make sure Ruggs doesn't beat him over the top. Therefore, we really need to get Edwards and other WR's massively involved, and also get Foster/Witten involved. I'd play the short passing game with Edwards and Ruggs and convert most of the 1st downs with Foster/Witten. Also play the medium passing game with all of our WR's: Edwards, Ruggs, Nelson, Renfrow, and Zay Jones. This should be a very WR heavy game IMO. That's where we can beat Bellichick. I would like to have a lot of 4 WR sets.

Overall, I think the Pats D will be too much for us, especially being on the east coast. And to be honest, there's nothing wrong losing a close one here. If we get blown out, that's a different story.

I predicted us to lose last week and we won, hopefully the same thing happens this week.

My writeup from our thread.

Good luck this week guys! Looks like you gentlemen haven’t skipped much of a beat. Hope for a fun, injury-free game.

I honestly think it will come down to TOP. Both teams have the ability to hold the ball, so it will be interesting to see who is better.

Just two games but calling the Patriots a top 2 defense is a bit generous, I don't think they are deserving of that spot. Compared to last year the defense is smaller, the LBs are all question marks, they have issues generating pressure outside of Chase Winovich, run stopping is middle of the road. The only real constant is the secondary play, the one which Wilson completely lit up, but I am sure other secondaries will face the same fate so I will not hold it against them. Also, this year the Patriots schedule is a murderers row, I doubt they will have a chance to pad their stats like they did last year. That doesn't mean they are bad, just that I don't think they will finish top 5  but should still be considered good. Between free agency and covid 19 opt outs the defense lost quite a few starters.

To be fair, Seattle is the best offense in the NFL and that game was in Seattle. I'd say you guys are at least Top 5 for sure. This will be a very telling game for both of our teams.

The front 7 defense talent is bad.

I don't think they are as bad as the #19 DVOA defensive ranking suggests but this defense is not as good as last year, not even close to it.

And they go as far as Gilmore can carry can. Unfortunately Gilmore has struggled with penalties and Metcalf in the first 2 games. That said the secondary won't always be this bad and probably have tight coverage in most games and this is a top 10-12 defense.

The offense in the current setup actually looks like the better unit to me. Our weapons are obviously very pedestrian but Cam has proven before he really only needs a good offensive line. He never had that in Carolina except 2015 and even then their tackle play was mediocre. It was pretty surprising to me that the run blocking against Seattle was not all that good. However they give him a lot of time to pass and that seems to be crucial in not having the feel to get hit at anytime. I think they will operate a trade or two though if they are at 6-2/6-3 midway through the season. So we will see how they do in the coming weeks.

I think NE wins this game but it's going to be higher scoring. Waller will create issues as will Jacobs. The Raiders defense is not good though and I think NE will find more success on the ground than against Seattle.

Sounds like if we can force 3 and outs, we'll be in a good position to win.

Offenses that have good, powerful running games coupled with targets (Waller) that can haul in 3rd down passes frustrate us (see TEN) and it's hard to get off the field. Judging by the 2 OAK fans above, their pass D looks shaky - we should look to build on the progress from SEA there, and hope Jules stays healthy. OL should be able to keep Cam clean for a good amount of passing.

It's not a good matchup for us. Apart from Guy, who on the line has the bulk to smash a big mauling OL and take down a rock hard RB? Where is the size in the front 7 to NOT be bullied by a running game? Last year we could send kamikaze's with Roberts, Collins and Hightower is a thumper, AND we had a bit more size on the line. I wonder how Bill is going to address this clear mismatch.

Yeah, seems that a lot of the info tossed in there is just pure perception and nothing to do with how the Pats are actually playing right now. I mean not everyone has chance to watch all games but still. The Raiders have turned a new page though, they will be tougher this time around and I am sure Carr wont be held below 10 points like he has in the past.

Carr has looked very good this year. Throughout his career he hasn't really had a strong running game until Jacobs so it's nice for him to be able to rely on that. Also helps Gruden has been calling fantastic games this season. I think both O's will put up points and it'll come down to our D's making a couple big plays.

Not sure how we stand a chance in this game, given Cam can't throw

🤣

Ignore him, one of our biggest homers and Carr Knights throughout the years. Carr is playing very good right now but that guy defended Carr every single play from 2017-2019 when he was playing mostly like trash.

Almost every fan base has these types.

98% of Raven fans on here are basically all these types. Pre-Dating the 2019 season.

We have the opposite type actually. The "even though 90% of the time this player is great but this one mistakes makes them total trash and they are going to cost us playoff games" types. Although since Brady left, we haven't seen those posters around much. HMMMMMMM
