pf9
I've proposed that the NFL hold a draft lottery, like the NBA and NHL, to determine the selection order for the non-playoff teams in each round of the draft. This would be done to prevent tanking. Had there been lotteries in previous years, it could have significantly altered the fortunes of some teams going forward.' Take 2012 for example. In 2011, the Colts obviously tanked after Peyton Manning was lost for the season. They got the #1 pick, and selected Andrew Luck. They were back in the playoffs the next season. But what if there had been a lottery for the 2012 draft? Like, if the Browns won the #1 pick in such a lottery, they could have taken Luck and they would have ended their playoff drought sooner. So, the draft lottery needs to be instituted to discourage tanking.

JaguarCrazy2832
Does it prevent tanking though?...I mean the NBA still has loads of teams tanking Also in the NFL, do coaches/GMs have time to tank? Owners have itchy trigger fingers
Uncle Buck
I don't mind the idea of a lottery, but I think the number of times teams have actually tried to lose is very small. Coaches and players have too much on the line to go out there and not do their best and try to lose games.

Mox
If there hadn't been a 2020 season I could've seen it as a one year stopgap solution. Since that's not the case it should stay as is.

Epyon
A lottery is basically the only way my bears are going to get Trevor Lawrence next year.... And as much as I enjoy spending my entire life watching my team wallow in qb purgatory... Bring on the lotto.

The Colts signed Kerry Collins late in the offseason in an attempt to plug the hole left by Manning's absence. After the season, the entirety of the front office and the head coach were fired. That hardly says, "good job on executing on the plan."
