So we need to add talent. That’s fair but what are we telling a WR who we want to sign? Take the money either a rookie out of Clemson or Sam Darnold is your starting QB. While Lawrence may be exciting a WR might not want to go through the growing pains and if it’s Darnold, the consensus around the league about him is he’s pretty freaking bad. I think we are really going to need a big name HC if we are trying to lure FAs here. The draft is so important for us and it has to continue to bare fruit. 2020 looked good and it’s nice that Becton worked out and maybe Perine could be solid and the punter looks the part but we have to be seeing more than that at some point this year. We so desperately need Mims to be good.

We so desperately need Mims to be good. As I stated. You have to hope that they're more about money than winning. Bc we can't sell winning (sad but true). But there's plenty of guys hitting FA at WR that haven't got a big payday yet. So they might chase the money. Big word is might. Also we don't know who gets tagged either. Our selling point besides money is very hard to judge at this stage. Especially for a WR. Bc as of now, yes Darnold is the starting QB for the future. But if he continues like he has and we're drafting high... then that changes everything. So we have 2 things we need to hope for. The easiest and best option is just that Darnold improves with WRs getting back healthy and Gase hopefully fired soon. So we win a few games to still be drafting high, but not high enough to think about Trevor or Fields. So we invest that cap and picks in weapons for Darnold. The other option is that Darnold continues to struggle and we have to decide to move on from him (very unfortunate if this does happen, bc the Jets would have ruined him, he's just not bad). And we draft Trevor or Fields. So we are either selling Darnold and a new HC and offensive scheme or selling a new HC system and new shiny rookie QB. JetsandI
FA is never meant to be part of a franchise' rebuilding program. FA is good for either system overhauling or immediate contribution in term of higher competition. Problem with Jets' past is they tried youngsters and when it was not enough they signed wrong FA in a panic move (like try to win fans and media's approval). JD will be tested when the situation reaches the meltdown.
