Right ! But Moreau shifted the momentum ! They were BOTH important ..

Offense had to move the ball to get into scoring position after Moreau's INT (he fell down and no return). Jimmy took it from our 48 down to their 19 (immediately in scoring position) and would've scored if he had one blocker take out DJax.

but who cares now . The sky is falling !

No sir...I will not tolerate JFM disrespect! (*)

(*) just kidding. Just breaking your marbles a bit. They were both important.

I wonder how much of this is a Jack Del Rio decision vs. Ron Rivera decision.

Because, to be honest, I don't get it.

Through four games, Ronald Darby's advanced stats

  • 18 targets
  • 10 receptions (55.6% completion rate)
  • 209 yards (20.9 yards/completion rate, 11.6 yards/target)
  • 96.8 opposing QB passer rating
  • 23.6 DADOT (average depth of target when targeted as defender, regardless of completion status)
  • 190 yards total air yards (on completions) vs. 19 yards after the catch
  • 14 tackles, 2 missed (12.5% miss rate)

Teams like to target him deep. They do it with some regularity (4.5 times per game) with success (2.5 times per game). The limited YAC means that he's making tackles, but if they're still  completing passes on you, that's cold comfort.

By comparison, Jimmy Moreland

  • 23 targets
  • 17 receptions (73.9% completion rate)
  • 141 yards (8.3 yards/completion rate, 6.1 yards/target)
  • 71.1 opposing QB passer rating
  • 6.7 DADOT
  • 61 air yards vs 80 yards after the catch
  • 14 tackles, 2 missed (12.5% miss rate)
  • 1 interception

Jimmy's allowing more catches, but they're more underneath stuff. Where he's gotten burned is on the yards after the catch. To be fair, however, 45 yards of that 80 (as well as the 2 missed tackles) came in the Arizona game. That was a really bad game for him (12 targets, 10 catches (83.3%), 61 yards). That was also the most playing time he had.

Fabian Moreau (NOTE: these stats are a small sample size)

  • 8 targets
  • 4 receptions (50.0% completion rate)
  • 58 yards (14.5 yards/completion, 7.3 yards/target)
  • 34.4 opposing QB passer rating
  • 9.1 DADOT
  • 22 air yards vs. 36 yards after the catch
  • 6 tackles, 1 missed (14.3% miss rate)
  • 1 interception

Again, small sample size, but better than what Darby has done through four games.

I just don't get it other than he's a veteran.

Darby is covering other teams best receivers most of the game until Fuller and back. QB is going to target Reagor deep for example especially when there’s no safety help bc the safety didn’t do his job or the D was called that way - I think it’s the former.

Moreland has been playing the slot, slot WRs mostly run underneath routes.

I’d like to see Moreau play more, I’ve wanted it for years. I think we missed him a lot the first half of last year when he was injured but, I do think that DelRio & Rivera too are going to stick w/ the vet in Darby and probably all year. I think the same w/ the LB cops, I like others want to see more SDH, Hudson & Holcomb when he returns rather than as much KPL, Bostic & Thomas Davis but I don’t have much hope they we’ll see that. Maybe Holcomb gets a lot of PT when he returns, but I don’t expect more for SDH & Hudson.

It’s just my hope that Moreau is re-signed if when he gets snaps he continues to show out like he has. He and Jimmy too can be #2 corners for us. We should let Darby walk after this year unless somehow someway he’s amazing the final 12 games.
