Rather them make them play and if they get mollywhooped, so be it. No sympathy. They played the game.

Playing off of two weeks without a single practice is the absolute worst case scenario. Give me a forfeit long before we risk a ton of injuries in a guaranteed loss. Or just treat it as a preseason game and sit every starter.

Seems Buffalo is gonna get a win by forfeit  hate it but ill take it before the TNF game with the Chiefs coming soon

Just curious.
If they cancelled the rest of the season and said ok,  Top 2 in the conference play for Conference championship game, based on winning percentage, tie breakers etc....

Looking at NFL standings, that means Pitt/TN and Sea/GB.  Buffalo gets left out simply because of some formula, you'd be ok with that?

I personally think forfeited games should be the absolute last choice after all other options have been exhausted.  I wouldn't want a win that way. Definitely don't want a loss that way.  I know we all different though.

This season isn't going to be normal.

I think it's weak to force a loss, especially if no wrong doing was done.

The issue there is, COVID-19.

There is no way to play these games without there being a high likelihood of the virus spreading, and then you have just dug yourself into an even deeper hole. There is no way to avoid a forfeit barring a big rescheduling.

And, if that is the case, then why not just allow players with COVID-19 to play? (Not my opinion)

Not to me. Worst case is forfeited loss.

Players all signed up to play knowing things could get crazy. Players all knew this could happen. Expanded practice squad for a reason. There was a chance star players were going to be out. We talked about the what if's.
What if Tanny or Henry had to sit? What if a team lost it's starting QB (Cam Newton).  If it happens, you play with what you got.

I don't care if it's a guaranteed loss. You play the game, make the other team earn the victory.  If they steamroll us, so be it. We all knew it could happen when the season started. To me it's not fair to try to delay the games so we can get healthy.
Not fair to the Bills or Steelers. Wouldn't be fair if the roles were reversed either.

I'm not really sure what "backup plans" they NFL could have instituted? Co-locate all players and team personal in temporary house for 8 months?

It's obvious NFL is going to blame team/players. At the end of the day the players/coaches/teams/NFL want to get paid so they will solider on, unless someone dies.

I know the schedule is made months in advance, and typically takes into account a whole host of other dates/events happening at NFL facilities and other sports etc (but this is only happening at extremely low rates now, and NFL obviously still have 1st right), but another option is to kill the current schedule, and expand the season by 2-3 weeks, and maybe play 12 games per week, the revised schedule is released every Tuesday for the Thursday/Sunday/Monday slate of games. Any team with active non-contained infections are shelved for 2 weeks.

They just did it with the Patriots.  (Likely was the wrong move, but they did it.)
Whoever is not positive plays.

Giving out losses to me is a wrong move, especially if no wrong doing was done.  To me that sets the wrong tone.
To me that says if any game going forward, gets delayed and a reschedule isn't possible, then the team with positive tests gets a loss. Because with the incubation period, there is no way to 100% say that all players are clear on the Patriots or Raiders.

So they should get losses this week by that standard.

Man this forum is overreacting like crazy anytime someone test positive, the Cam thread was beyond overreactionville.

Just test players every day up until Sunday. You will still test positive during incubation if past 24-48 hours.

If Titans do not have 53 free corona players and practice squad players, I say you do it on a Wednesday or Thursday between weeks, and teams can choose to rest some starters during that game if they want. The game would be playing right before the Bills bye.

Yes Titans would have 3 games in 7 days which is why I said they might wanna rest some dudes against the Bills. But at least they won’t have to forfeit.

Going straight into a game after weeks without any sort of football activity is begging for hamstring and muscle injuries.

Throwing a team out there with a quarter of the roster missing on zero practice time is a recipe for ruining the whole season.

The alternative to a forfeit probably shouldn’t be trying to murder as many human beings as possible.

If they have 53 players, then they play. That's how I feel.
If they get beat they get beat.

Cause waiting till it's all clear for any team with a positive test is going to cause delays.
They delayed the Patriots game and still got a positive test from Gilmore and likely more.  Closed their facility will not have practice until maybe Friday.  It's not fair but it is what it is.

Suit up who you got with negative tests, that's what the NFL is going to have to do, to avoid more delays.  Either that or lock down everyone in a bubble or stop for 2 weeks until all is clear for any team with a positive test.

A virus with a 99.98% survival rate according to the CDC a few weeks ago under the ago of 70, ok bud. Only 94% for 70+, which is pretty bad, but I’m sure these players are in full quarantine from any elderly (at least I hope they aren’t that dumb).

We've been a team for the last 3 years where a single loss has ruined a whole season, with multiple win and in the playoff type games.
A forfeit might as well close the season too.
What are they supposed to do? Take about 2 losses until we can get a whole week of on field practice?

And what bout going forward? Any further delays or positive tests equals an automatic loss?

The murder comes from asking human beings to play three NFL games in seven days. Players have long complained about the health risk involved with a normal Thursday night game, adding another game on even less rest is lunacy.

Agreed. If they have a combine 53 test negative on Saturday and Sunday, they play. No question in my mind.

However, if they don’t have a 53, they should play on the Wednesday or Thursday right before the Bills bye in Mid November. Titans will play 3 games in 7 days, but they can choose to rest some starters for of those three games if they want.
