ChazStandard
Clearly the right move. He’s looked dynamic, and a lot more comfortable than most people thought he would. Benching him now would do nothing but dent his confidence, and it’s not like Taylor’s going to make a deep playoff run.
DawgX
I mean, Lynn would look like a complete moron if he had gone back to Tyrod after the way Herbert has played so far.
FinSting
Smart move Chargers, rook Herbert is the real deal. They'll never take away Tyrod's trivia immortality though: "what Pro Bowl QB was benched in favor of Nathan Peterman?"

If it would hurt his confidence to give the starter back his job his confidence will get shattered in this league. I think it's the right move, if your future looks ready why not start your future now. I don't think Herbert is so fragile that giving the reins back to Tyrod would hurt him though. I think he would still have the confidence he built up to this point and probably gain some knowledge if that would have happened. You certainly learn more actually playing though so his progression is going to be faster this way as long as he can withstand the thing that most often breaks a QB's confidence, a poor pass blocking effort by his offensive line.
MikeT14
Poor Tyrod, I feel for the guy, but it's the right move.
sammymvpknight
I like Tyrod...but this is his role. He's a back-up QB. He had to know that this day was coming. Definitely the right move...they could actually compete with Herbert.

He's earned more than $ 50 million so far with more on the way. Pretty sure he'll be OK and really - for a 6th rounder- that's a heck of a career He's tossed 54 TDs so far, so he's getting almost $ 1M for each one - and with a little luck, he walks away healthy & happy to enjoy the rest of his life https://overthecap.com/player/tyrod-taylor/1407/ https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/T/TaylTy00.htm
kramxel
I think Lynn's plan with Tyrod was based a lot on having a good running game, but that now seems out of the picture with so many injuries on the O-line and Ekeler going down. If we'll have to throw it a ton each game, it makes all the sense in the world to keep Herbert in there, besides all the other points pointing him to be way better than Tyrod ever dreamed. The only bad taste is from the way it was handled, with the Tyrod puncture situation, and though it was a random event, I feel it's Lynn's responsability, that Tyrod was the starter week 1, and not Herbert. If he was ready week 2, he was ready week 1, and should have been the QB they were planning the season with.
MagicMT
Yup. Herbert is better than Taylor already... Been really impressed with Herbert so far. His big knock coming out of Oregon was his play under pressure. He's been good on that front in the NFL, from what I've seen this year Edited October 8, 2020 by MagicMT

There's more than a few teams that'll sign him. I expect whoever drafts Justin Fields in the draft to bring him in as his competition. Jeezla
I thought he would completely suck, and I was wrong. His play kind of reminds me of Daks rookie season. Edited October 8, 2020 by Jeezla
