If the ACC expanded in such a way that allowed geographic divisions this could be an annual game, with my insistence that Cincinnati be included in any ACC expansion.

The two new schools would join with Boston College, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech in the North Division.

Meanwhile, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Wake Forest would form the South Division.

Clemson would replace Virginia Tech as Miami's biggest out-of-state rival. As both schools have orange as a school color, it should be called the Orange Crush Bowl, sponsored by the soft drink of the same name, which is under same ownership as Dr Pepper, the drink most associated with CFB. Each year, the team at home would wear orange helmets, jerseys, and pants, while the visiting team would wear white helmets, jerseys, and pants. The winning coach gets a year's supply of Orange Crush, he can choose either regular or diet.

The South would be stacked.  No way that happens.  At least the current way it's set up, VT and Miami might have a chance to come back and do something in the other division.

In this instance, north and south is not the best way to divide, and just proves how disadvantaged many northern states are as far as recruiting goes- it is much easier to sell a southern climate than a northern one, especially for football.

You're forgetting that the NC schools would probably want this realignment because it would allow them to compete in the same division and thus play each other every year like they did prior to 2004. Only because of the pandemic did that get restored for this season. But these schools want the ability to play each other every year without the need to schedule non-conference matchups between either North Carolina and Wake Forest or Duke and North Carolina State.

Furthermore, I think Clemson will decline once Lawrence leaves. They have to at some point. And having North-South would help the chances of the teams in the ACC located North of the Mason-Dixon line to make the playoff. Every other conference with divisions has them divided geographically. It's about time the ACC do the same.

In fact, there's a strong argument to change the current 7-team ACC divisions in football to be based on how long each school has been in the conference.

One division would consist of the five remaining charter members which includes Clemson and the four NC schools, plus the first two expansion teams, Virginia and Georgia Tech.

Every school that joined the ACC for all sports including football in my lifetime - Florida State and the 6 former Big East members - would form another division.

Obviously, Virginia-Virginia Tech would be a protected crossover. You could also protect Clemson-Miami in such an an alignment.

This alignment can be used until two more schools north of NC - which I insist must include Cincinnati - join.

Under such an alignment, the conference games for Thanksgiving weekend would always include Virginia-Virginia Tech, Boston College-Syracuse, and Miami-Pittsburgh. The four North Carolina schools would rotate among themselves on Thanksgiving weekend. And the remaining schools, as always, would play their in-state SEC foe.
