Raiders sign DL David Irving

Dont see why he cant get snaps on Sunday night. He plays a position where its plug and play especially with what they're going to ask him to do. Aldon and Dion played the same week they signed. Get him some naps on Sunday to knock off the rust and continue to increase his snaps as the weeks go by.

On paper, this is a very exciting signing. Biggest worry is his motivation.

Maybe some comparisons with our Aldon Smith signing a few years back; both in terms of their undeniable talent (although I’m not suggesting Irving is quite on Aldon’s level) and also their, ehh, transgressions. But as has been mentioned in the thread already, weed is nowhere near the issue it used to be to the NFL, which bodes better for Irving’s time in silver & black.

Seymour came in middle of the week and then dominated the Chargers. Always remember that performance.

Since he has to go through the COVID 5 day thing makes sense to sign him to the practice squad and not carry a player on the active roster that won’t play this weekS

Couldn't another team simply sign him off of our practice squad to their roster though? Have we got exclusive rights to him or anything in this Covid situation?

I think they get away with it this week with this rule

COVID-19 rule: After 4 p.m. ET on the Tuesday of a game week (not a bye week), a team may designate up to four of its practice squad players as "protected," meaning they are not allowed to sign with another team until after their current team plays its next game.

also it’s really up to the player if they want to leave from ones practice quad to another’s team active roster. Irving made the decision to come here so not really scared of him wanting to leave

Weed being a problem is pro sports in 2020 is hilarious....

Its not just weed with him. Irving is legitimately crazy. His ex had to get restraining orders against him due to his behavior. Cops were called lots of times. Rumors of DV and that he had to keep paying her off as to not go to through the courts. Huge problems with authority. One of his suspensions he lit up a joint outside the Cowboys stadium next to a cop.

All that said, on a per snap basis, he was one of the most talented and productive DT's in the entire NFL (including Donald) for a while. If his mind and body is right, the talent is 100% there.
