We see how quickly it worked for the Dolphins, who were basically having a fire sale the last two years. If Joe Douglas is good at his job, it shouldn't take that much time with that sort of capital. They have Becton and Mims, as mentioned. Add in Perine, Doctson*, Herndon, Crowder, and Perriman on offense assuming all return, and a couple solid O-line guys, and you don't have an absolutely empty cupboard of an offense. By no means great, but we've seen worse options at skilk positions, and that's further assuming some of their draft picks don't go to those roles as well. It probably used to before 24 hour television and the internet made marketing a nonstop, worldwide business as opposed to a targeted, regional one. It might still play a factor for non stars. I've seen many middle of the road Lions players doing local endorsements over the years for car dealerships, restaurants, furniture companies, etc. I imagine middle of the road players in larger markets probably make a little more for doing those and there's probably more options. But as a star, the TV is plastered with Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, and Baker Mayfield whose markets are 22nd, 27th, and 14th respectively. Someone like Lawrence is going to be doing ads for whatever shoe company he signs with (Nike, Adidas, Under Armor), a nationwide insurance company (State Farm, Progressive, etc.), a streaming service (Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc.), and who knows what else. In order to keep those types of endorsements, he'll have to live up to his draft hype of course. The players that truly want to maximize their earnings would be best to do so in a state with no income tax (Florida, Nevada, Texas, Washington), keeping an average of 13% more of their salary. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Baker Mayfield ranked in the top 10 among active players in earnings from NFLPA licensing last year at $1.1m... and that doesn't include the endorsement money he's pulling in from Progressive, Hulu, etc. where they aren't using any NFL stadium, jersey, etc. as an identifier and just count on people recognizing the name/face of Baker, which account for millions more. Multiple millions more per year do more than account for COLA differential between markets. And this is Baker Mayfield we're talking about who, aside from one year, hasn't been an outstanding pro. Going to a large market can serve as a significantly larger cushion or protection against the level of play affecting your ability to pull down the endorsement bucks, so long as you have a decent personality (Trevor does) and a recognizable face (as long as Trevor doesn't cut the hair, he's got a standout-look). 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Actually, if he was drafted by the Jets and the Jets owner is Woody Johnson and his fortune is related to Johnson & Johnson... could Lawrence get a J&J Shampoo/products (Aveeno, Neutrogena, Johnson) endorsement deal or is that considered cheating the salary cap? 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
