pf9
The NFL is going to a 17 game schedule for each team soon. 16 of each team's games will be determined by the schedule formula in place since 2002, and take place at the normal home venues of each team. The 17th game is going to be a neutral site game. The NFL will likely consider various factors in determining the 17th game for each team every year. One potential factor is if two teams which are located near each other but do not share the same division are both coming off playoff appearances. Both the Eagles and the Steelers are currently in first place. If both teams do end up making the playoffs this year, they should meet each other next year in Beaver Stadium on the Penn State campus. It would hopefully be televised on Sunday Night Football. The battle of PA is due for appearing in primetime (an MNF meeting in 1982 was canceled due to the strike). EAGLES3658
Them playing at Penn State as a neutral site would be pretty cool.
Scalamania
Why wouldn't they just play in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh? Penn State has nothing to do with either team.

It makes no sense, from a financial perspective, to have neutral site games in the NFL.

It makes no sense, from a financial perspective, to have neutral site games in the NFL. It would never happen, ever! What if the matchup was say Chargers-Panthers, where are they playing? NFL owners are about making money, hence the 17th game. Only thing I could see happening is the schedule makers alternating Home and Away games every season to ensure revenue for each club. 2021- 8 Home - 9 Away 2022 9 Home - 8 Away 2023 8 Home - 9 Away Ect.... Jroc04
I don’t know why people think this is such a big deal? This would easily make money. NFL fans love to travel. They make yearly trips around games. Every two teams could have a gimmick. Battle of PA works. Just like the dumbass annual college games with ridiculous premises that end up being great rivalries. Subway game, play a game in Mexico, Canada. Would easily work out. It grows the brand. Owners would be fine with it.
