OKC Gamplan:

This week we get to travel to Cuba to look to right the ship on our season. Although we are currently 1-3, we are not at all looking to give up. Cam Newton is rounding into form and our offense as a whole is getting healthier. We will be a very dangerous team for the rest of the season, and we are still optimistic about our playoff chances. This week we get a fortunate matchup as the Smugglers come in very banged up on both sides of the ball. We should be able to dominate the Smugglers' offense and win this game.

Offense:

With Cam Newton finally looking like a real quarterback when he throws the ball, we will look to run a more balanced attack this week. Although we don't have a top-end talent within our skill positions, we have a lot of strength in our ability to diversify our offense. We will use a large variation in formations from 3 back sets, 3 or 4 WR sets, 2 TE sets, etc., and although we will tilt our playcalling towards what makes more sense for each formation, we will look to utilize both run and pass plays from all of them. We will run a relatively small percentage of plays from our listed base offense and many of our listed bench players will see significant snaps.

Alex Collins is a new addition to our team this week, and he will be immediately slotted into the starting offense. He has looked absolutely dynamic in his few carries behind a poor offensive line, and we expect very good results behind our line. Like in real life, we will keep him on a short leash when it comes to his fumbling. He will receive the majority of the early down work with LeGarrette Blount also seeing significant action. Joe Mixon will rotate in as a third down back and will also see some touches. We will have a few designed runs for Newton. Our run-heavy sets should beat up on a thin defensive front that's missing its best player in Fletcher Cox.

Cuba has an elite duo of cornerbacks, but the talent level drops off significantly after them. When we line up in our 3 or 4 WR sets, we should get plus matchups against the #3 and #4 corners. We will try to move all of our pass catchers around. If either Desmond Trufant or Richard Sherman follows Adam Thielen into the slot, then one of our receivers will have a great matchup with Anthony Brown having to move to the outside. If Trufant and Sherman instead play sides, then we should be able to create mismatches from the slot position. Also, outside of Trufant and Sherman, Cuba doesn't have a player that can man up successfully against Jordan Reed. Reed is on his way back to being healthy, and he should be productive in this game.

Defense:

Cuba's offense took a big hit last week after an unfortunate injury to Dalvin Cook. With Cook sidelined as well as Paul Perkins, Cuba is left with only Tevin Coleman and Frank Gore as options at running back. Neither of these backs is particularly scary, and we do not expect to have to do any extra work to stop the Cuba running game this week.

Once again we will utilize a man-heavy scheme on defense. In our base defense Patrick Peterson will cover Julio Jones, Brent Grimes will cover Kelvin Benjamin, and Eli Apple will cover whomever Cuba trots out as their third WR. Eric Kendricks will cover their tight end and Kendell Beckwith will be responsible for their running back. Our safeties will be in Cover-2 with a frequent switch to Cover-1 Robber as we did last week.

Our front four should generate pressure on their own, but we will not be afraid to send extra pressure. If either the tight end or running back stays in to block, unlike last week, their assigned linebacker will be expected to blitz. Also, instead of a robber in our Cover-1, we will sometimes send a linebacker or Jordan Poyer on a designed blitz. In the case of a linebacker blitz, Poyer will be responsible for the tight end.

If Cuba lines up with four wide receivers this week, then Beckwith will be taken off the field for Trevor Williams, who will cover the fourth WR. Against a four-wide set, although we will still blitz occasionally, we will generally be more conservative as we expect our four man rush to fare better against a spread offense.

Cuba Gameplan:

Offense

Time to replace Dalvin Cook. The offense is still dangerous enough to get going because Kirk Cousins. Frank Gore is a fill in and despite the fact he is not the playmaker Dalvin is, he can still be a reliable starter. In addition to pass protection prowess, Gore can still convert short yardage situations. Tevin Coleman's usage is the significant increase as this is a 50-50 timeshare. Coleman is a reliable receiver and a capable back in all down and distance situations. This is important because these guys are going to run into a good group of LBs. Julio will likely be shadowed by Patrick Peterson and one of our receivers should receive safety help. We will rotate formations to get Pryor/Benjamin spots at the X receiver position. We want to keep the balance of run and pass equal. Cousins should get some play action chances while using his legs on some read option plays. This was successful enough to get Cousins 38 rushing yards and we need to show OKC different things with a stable of RBs in the backfield. The Tavon Austin experience is still relevant. We are going to line him up at RB next to Coleman. He will sprinkle a screen pass or two at the receiver position. In addition to being shifty he can break a big play or give us Eli Apple against Benjamin/Pryor in single coverage. Speaking of Apple, the intention is targeting him in any single coverage chance he gets, especially in the red zone. Julio Jones targeted a half-dozen times is a reasonable and efficient game. We will take some chances on Peterson and try to avoid OKCs safeties. To finalize the offensive game plan, we are letting Antonio Gates and Jermaine Gresham get sone run as guys who get open and at the very least cause attention to the defense.

Gameplan
Target Eli Apple early. Get the running game going, establish a play action threat and target whichever of Grimes/Apple dealing with size mismatches in Benjamin or Pryor. Love Benjamin in single coverage, will target him regardless of the number two CB. Tavon Austin on gadget plays, Cousins RPO allows him to scramble for short yardage situations. Limited shots at Patrick Peterson. Stay wary of Malik Hooker.

Defense

Intro: A couple important things to note. 1. Weston Richburg is out. OKC does not own a backup center ok the roster. 2. Jordan Reed is still recovering from his injury. He played 13 snaps last week, and his injury has been a lingering concern since the pre season. 3. OKC is also likely to switch its running back starter this week. If it is LeGarrett Blount we need to prepare for a physical game.

OKC brings a front with capable starters led by TJ Lang. We should have zero issues from a size perspective. Mario Edwards Jr. and Calais Campbell have edge contain responsibilities as bigger edges who can contain stretch runs. We combat Cam's read option and open field ability with Jordan Jenkins and Kyle Van Noy. With this 4-3 base, there will be some invaried 3-4 responsibility for guys like Jenkins(OLB) and Marshall/Johnson(ILB). We want to bring blitzes and let our Linebackers run and chase the in the second level. The goal is simple: Stop the run.

Adam Thielen is the teams preferred receiver. With much respect we intend to double him in the slot and let Sherman/Trufant cover the boundary. There may be instances Sherman follows Thielen in the slot. While he's generally underrated to observers we think of him as a solid weapon in all areas of the field. Otherwise, we think successful opportunities occur if we stop the run. Once OKC goes into passing situations and 4/5 WR sets (Maclin, Hurns, Agholor, Wallace) their combination of receivers offer up guys across the board who can threaten a defense. We think the benefits of opening their offensive line as Julius Peppers(4.5 sacks) and Terrell Suggs(3.0 sacks) can become traditional pass rushers with Campbell and Edwards rotating Derek Wolfe. We are prepared for the Cam Newton who wins with dual threat abilities and a arm that stretches the entire field.

Gameplan
Stop the run. The base formation is prepped to stop the run. BJ Goodson is two down LB replaced by guys who are suited to stop RPOs and read options (Jenkins at EDGE, Van Noy as ILB). Calais Campbell (5.5 sacks) and Mario Edwards Jr.(3.0 sacks) lead the way as starting edge guys who move inside for guys like Peppers and Suggs. Passing situations either double cover or Sherman follows Thielen. Limited Jordan Reed or face 4/5 receiver sets meaning less protection for Cam. The key for Cuba is stopping the run, and forcing Cam Newton to vertically stretch our defense whilst taking away Adam Thielen.

Well, this one will be easy. I feel sorry for you Whicker, Cammy Cam is finally playing well and you can't field 5 active linemen

Don't feel sorry for me. Yeah I got unlucky on the river, but I was in that spot because I played the early parts of the hand like ****.

I read this and said "Ut Oh" out loud. I don't think OKC stands a chance here to be honest. Highlighting Thielen and Alex Collins as your top weapons is tough and you gave a run at it with your writeup but I think here talent wins out.
