Which i have no clue why he is riding the bench. More stupidity by the coaches. They need to fire Gus if they want to try to salvage the season. The crazy thing is - from Marty Schottenheimer to Norv Turner to Lynn - it's ALL about coaching game management. Hopefully whoever they hire, they actually make game management a priority (even having a game management sideline guy, to feed him the info that somehow eludes HC's like Lynn). But they have literally shutdown and obliterated every offense they faced in the 1st half. But the 2nd half, shredded. Then this happens; - 1st and 10 on DEN 24 looking to put the game beyond reach. Run on 1st down and 2nd down. 3rd and long - interception. DEN gets a TD on their next drive - 24-17, driving again, to DEN 32, 1st and 10. Run on 1st down, run on 2nd down, now in 3rd and long and throw an incompletion and settle for FG. Clock stops. DEN gets a TD on their next drive - 27-24, driving again, to DEN 17 yard line. A 1st down could end game. 1st and 10 - run on first down; penalty. 1st and 24 now on DEN 31, run on 1st down. 3rd and long, incompletion, settle for FG. 30-24. DEN scores again. So they abandoned what made them dominate this game, AGAIN. They abandon passing and get all conservative. That's how they do this all the time. Lynn is not fit for purpose. His conservative approach counts on a strong defense performance late in the game and they come up short. Herbert seems to be on the right track to be the real deal for them but they need to continue to put the foot on the gas and stop playing defense on the offense by trying to kill clock. They need to constantly play as if they are down 10 not up 10. A new coaching staff may do them some good or adjustments to the defensive side of the ball with coaching change. Marty doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the other coaches. Since Marty we've had coaches that were scared. Marty was conservative but never scared. He'd have finally gotten his superbowl appearance if Marlon Mcree had just gone down with the ball instead of trying to make a bigger play. Drayton Florence inexplicably headbutting a Patriot after they failed a conversion on 3rd down. Chargers find the most unique ways to shoot themselves in the foot but Marty was no McCoy, Turner or Lynn. He changed this team from annual top 5 pick to an actual contender. Charges just got way ahead in the scoring in games they shouldn't be even competing and found themselves leading against Pat's chiefs, Brady's bucs and Brees' Saints because their rookie QB is just amazing and then 'came back to earth', happens in every sport. If they flip the conservative switch whilst having the lead in the 4th, they'll come straight off the field, and Ryan will stab them in the heart.
