Scout
Who's the best pro prospect in LA?
IDOG_det
Pretty easily Rosen for me. His play is a little risky, but other than that I can't find a reason why he can't be a good NFL QB. Young but pretty productive. UCLA's system will prepare him a little bit for what he'll see in the NFL, although it isn't the best system. Likely won't be one of the great QB's, but he'll probably be a mid-tier "franchise QB" type. Not a big fan of Darnold. Throwing mechanics and footwork need to be changed. Hands on the smaller end combined with a largely average arm doesn't allow for a very extensive NFL playbook. He is an underrated athlete and isn't afraid of big situations, so I'll give him that. Iamcanadian
Both these guys have a real shot at being a true NFL franchise QB's. In Darnold, you have the arm and the intangibles, in Rosen, you have the arm and an almost a perfect throwing motion rarely seen in a college QB, but with some character issues. Both are juniors, so they are still raw and their best years should still be ahead of them. So, I do not think a few lapses will effect them all that much. As to who goes first in the draft and who goes second, I think it will come down to the interview process at the Combine for Rosen. If he can convince GM's his character problems are a thing from the past and that he has matured, he likely goes first overall, if he cannot convince GM's of this, then Darnold likely gets picked 1st overall. Scout
Yeah, not buying Rosen has "character issues" based off scuttlebutt. He's not afraid to speak his mind and ruffled a few feathers with older executives. So what if he's cocky. Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady are too. CalhounLambeau
I really like both of them. Rosen grew up with advantages, didn't redshirt and is a little older than Darnold. So I give Darnold more of a leash. Both these guys are so young. Trying to be patient and not have irrational opinions so early. I typically don't watch or judge QB's when they're 19 years old. With these guys you have to watch them at this age. I'm staying low key on them until I absolutely have to evaluate them.
Scout
I've watched them both play live on TV a few times this year. After watching a couple cuts on each, I have to say Rosen is #1. Both are franchise quarterbacks. Nitpick them all you want, but neither can even buy a beer. They're gonna be fine.
Scout
You can see Rosen's background as an elite tennis player in his footwork, base, and hip rotation. His pocket fundamentals are just rare.

And people will use that against Darnold when he's a typical QB who just turned 20 years old. Darnold is rare in his own way. Rosen is rare in a way that makes Darnold and others look worse by comparison.

48 1/2ers
I think Rosen is pretty clearly ahead of Darnold right now. Projecting forward they both have really high ceilings. Darnold does have a better supporting cast though so it's strange he's looked so shaky.
Fureys49ers
I like em both a lot and wouldn't mind either in red and gold for the future. With all these old QBs in the NFL struggling I'm glad to see some young guns with the potential to fill that void. There's just something about Darnold that seems special, call the IT factor, his ability to improv, shake off mistakes or just how he carries himself on the field, there's something there. Not saying Rosen doesn't have it cause he does in his own way, similar to Matt Ryan in my mind, there's just something about Darnold like there was with Winston, Watson, Cam to name in recent drafts that make people believe, or atleast me, that this kid is a winner. Doesn't guarantee NFL success by any means and there are many other things that factor into fulfilling that potential in the NFL but it's something an NFL team can get behind. Obviously this season hasn't started the way I'm sure he'd like it to and he's even said himself he's struggling with confidence in what he's seeing out there but that's still impressive in itself as I'm pretty sure many NFL teams would still take him early. This dudes ceiling is way up there if what we are seeing on the field right now is him questioning himself.
CWood21
I was wondering who was going to make this comparison. I'll go with Josh Rosen. I recently moved him to my top ranked QB in this year's class ahead of Darnold. And that's not a knock on Darnold, I just have seen more from Rosen than I have with Darnold. I had Darnold rated higher at the start of the year, but I've moved Rosen to #1 for the time being just because I've seen a little more from him this season. Still, wouldn't be upset with the 49ers taking either (or signing Cousins and trading the second overall pick for a treasure trove of picks to a QB starved team who then takes either of these guys)

Obviously, you'll need to vet him carefully because of his comments about the whole NCAA system but from an on-the-field standpoint he's really taken the lead for that first overall pick among QB prospects.
