Lancaster Offensive Strategy: This is one of the more complete defenses in the BDL and there's no real weaknesses to key in on. Since there's no specific place to target we plan on staying balanced on offense so that the defense can't key in on any one part of our offense either. As talented as their defense is, our offense is just as talented with maybe the best backfield in the BDL. We want to have a relatively even pass/run ratio and we want to spread the ball around in the passing game with a slight focus on Alvin Kamara.

The Passing Strategy: We've got a lot of offensive weapons to account for and we want to spread them out so they can't focus or double anyone with leaving other defenders susceptible to being beat. We've got our 1 RB/3 WR/1 TE offense as our base but we're going to be utilizing Miles Sanders a lot as well, taking our Jonnu for a 2 RB look. We want to use our 3 WRs at all levels of the fields, mixing it up with short and intermediate stuff and going deep occasionally as well. We want to specifically scheme some stuff up for Diontae Johnson where we have him maybe run a jet sweep or hit him on a quick slant or screen so he can get the ball in space and use his speed and elusiveness to pick up some nice gains. When Jonnu is in, we want to use him similarly to Kittle. Obviously he's not as talented but he's very athletic and is good when split out wide as a big slot. When Sanders is in we want to take advantage of having two elusive receiving threats in the backfield. Sanders and Kamara will line up on either side of Wilson in the shotgun. We might keep both in the backfield, we might split one out wide, we might split both out wide. Both will be used similarly where we will look to hit them on screens  or other quick throws where they can get the ball in space and make guys miss.

The Running Strategy: Whether we're running or outside we want to have guys pulling. Gotham's DL is no joke so getting extra blockers in front of Kamara/Sanders will definitely help them. We like to run to the outside and we'll definitely do that here with tosses and pitches but we aren't going to shy away from trying to run up the middle either. Our gameplan this week is predicated on being balanced and keeping the defense from keying in on anything specific so we want to keep things balanced.

Lancaster Defensive Strategy: Our plan this week is to go heavy in coverage and count on our DL to stop the run. We think we have an advantage in the trenches, especially with guys like Ferrell and Joseph drawing their starts this week. This DL is stout against the run and while we obviously won't completely neutralize Jacobs with this strategy, we think it can limit him effectively. This leaves 7 men in coverage to help slow down Gotham's many weapons. We want to get our sacks through tight coverage and we think we have the back 7 players to accomplish this.

The Pass Defense Strategy: It's a little tough this week to plan out assignments since two of our top CBs may or may not play. If King, is out, Butler will take over for him. If Alexander is out, Poole will play and if Poole is also out then Hayden will man the slot. Coverage assignments will have Jalen Ramsey on Hill with Eddie Jackson over the top, Alexander/Poole/Hayden will cover Landry, and King/Butler will cover Higgins. Abrams will be playing a deep zone on the side of the field away from Hill while occasionally slipping up into the box on obvious rushing downs. Alexander will cover Jacobs out of the backfield and Wagner will cover Hurst. We want to play tight on these guys to lock them down for as long as possible. We want Carr to have to throw contested catches. On obvious passing downs we want to rotate in Kerrigan for Ferrell and Kinlaw for Joseph to get some extra pressure on the OL.

The Run Defense Strategy: Not a whole lot to it this week. we just want to win up front against this OL which we think is just average. We've got two great run defenders playing this week, Joseph by choice and Ferrell not. They should still help as both are stout against the run. On obvious rushing downs we're going to have our LBs play closer to the line and Abrams coming up into the box.

GOTHAM

Week 10 of the BDL season is bringing the playoff picture into focus.  This week we get a rematch at home with Lancaster, looking to avenge an early season loss.  This game has far reaching playoff seeding implications as we look to climb on top alone of the Atlantic division for the first time this year.

OFFENSE (60% Pass 40% Run) - 3 WR/TE/RB Base

As always we seek balance in our offensive attack, but will again go a little pass heavier against a Lancaster defense that is missing some key personnel up front and in the secondary.  Giving Carr time to find the open man is paramount, providing opportunities for our weapons to move the chains and make splash plays.

Passing Game:  We are going to lean on our passing game a bit more in this matchup, doing our best to spread it around to our receivers.  Ramsey is obviously an excellent CB and he will likely be assigned to Hill.  To get Hill the ball, we will target him on crossers and jet sweeps in addition to his usual field stretching deep routes.  Landry and Jeudy will split reps in the slot out of this formation with the objective of keeping them fresh and presenting a challenge to Poole to keep up.  Higgins will likely be heavily targeted, especially against anyone not named Jalen Ramsey.  Against Cover 1 looks, Jacobs or Davis will be used as outlets for Carr to dump off to.  We don’t think the TEs have a huge day, but we are going to run them on deeper routes to get the Wolves LBs and safeties to clear the short zone for shorter high percentage passes to our wideouts.

Running Game:  Jacobs again will be our bell cow, but Davis will be used on 3rd and longs and will spell Josh on 1 drive per half.  If Abram is not in the box, we are running.  The Wolves have a strong run stopping d line, but our O Line is an excellent run blocking unit in their own right, we particularly want to run behind Mason and McGlinchey on the right side.

Protection:  TJ Watt is a pass rushing stud, but beyond that there isn’t much to fear from Lancaster’s pass rushers.  Watt will get attention from RBs in max pro sets and TEs on chips.  We feel our unit can provide a clean pocket for Carr against the Wolves and will be prepared for trickeration like stunts and blitzes by staying true to their lanes, especially on the interior.

Formations:

  • 3 WR Base - 60%

  • 12 Personnel - 30% - Hill/Higgins/Hurst/Ebron

  • 4 WR - 10% - Hill/Landry/Higgins/Jeudy

DEFENSE - 4-2-5 Cover 1 Nickel

We expected to face Russell Wilson twice this year, but not against 2 different divisional rivals.  #ConspiracyTheories.  Wilson needs special attention, but the true cog of Lancaster’s offense is Alvin Kamara.  If we don’t limit Kamara, we aren’t going to be able to limit Wilson.  As such, we will focus on these strategies:

Kamara - Minkah Fitzpatrick reprises his SPY role to focus on shutting down Kamara.  Fitz will follow Kamara wherever he lines up, backfield, slot, out wide, on Russ’ shoulders; doesn’t matter where he goes, Fitz is on him.  We think this will be most useful in limiting explosive pass plays to Alvin and could result in some losses, particularly on screens and swing passes.  If Lancaster wants to run with Kamara, we think our D Line is more than up to it, with Fitz, Wright and Cunningham ready to light him up if he gets through the line.

Mix Up Coverages -  We want to throw different looks at Wilson and will play about 60/40 Man:Zone.  Most of our looks will be Cover 1 pre snap, but we will play sides with Howard and Rhodes so Russ won’t get a read by using motion.  Verrett mans the slot, with Wright on Smith: Douglas on WR4 against 4 wide sets.

Get to Russ - We feel WIlson makes his best and most impactful plays outside of the pocket, so we want to prevent him from escaping it.  Our EDGE rushers are going to be focussed on getting upfield and containing Wilson in the pocket while our interior rushers collapse it in front of him.  We are happy with the amount of pressure we can generate from our front 4, but will run delayed blitzes as well, getting to Russ if he does escape the pocket.

Both are solid teams, both, as per the norm, have brought " punch" and "counter punch" gameplans.

This was a really hard game for me to decide on. But with Wilson somewhat struggling recently and Lancaster's secondary not being at full strength, I think Gotham pulls out a win in an absolute gun slinging shootout

35-31 Gotham

For me, if Gotham game planned this right there isn't a whole lot racks could've done with his injury situation. Pheltz played it perfectly, extra protection to aid in the more open passing game this week going after an injured secondary, and then being able to get movement on the ground with Abram forced to play deep all game.

I like racks getting Kamara and Sanders on the field together though, both guys are such good receivers Gotham can't really key in on either one.

This is how I feel about this matchup. The corner injuries doom Lancaster in this one.

This is a really really close one for me.

The edge comes from how well their key contributors are playing right now.

Wilson stunk it up again with 2 more picks and Kamara only had like 15 yard rushing

Carr didn't do much but also didn't turn it over.  Jacob's played well.

So for me the players expecting at a higher level takes this one.

With Wilson really slowing down IRL and Gotham gameplanning well today, I'm going with the Gashslayers in a very mild upset. This is a game I would love to see in the playoffs again, though.

Going with Gotham also for these reasons.
