CAMDEN

Offense
Going against one of our longest tenured frienemies this week in Frogs we have a tall task. Probably on the short list of Bizz Bowl contenders, and we know Frogs is going to give better effort than our last couple opponents so we have our work cut out. Here are our keys.

Break tendencies- By now, Frogs should know we like to run lots of quick slants to get the ball in Brown and Kupp's hands, but early this week we're going to be working a lot  more double moves off of those to catch Cuba trying to jump patterns. Lots of sluggos, out and ups and stop and go's from Kupp and Brown today on top of their normal patterns. Lots of times we like to bunch receivers together and work crossing patterns, so today out of bunch sets we'll run a few WR screens, since in bunch set the CB's can get a good press for fear of getting caught in traffic.

Brown Town- We went target heavy for Brown last week and we'll do the same here this week, we think Brown has a big advantage over any of those CB's on Cuba, and even if they commit a safety over the top, it doesn't help with a lot of Brown getting the ball on short and intermediate stuff. If we can commit heavy targets to Brown, and force Cuba to also commit multiple resources we can force 1 on 1's in other places we can take advantage of. Often times we'll have Kupp and Brown on the same side, with Hilton/Hamler on the opposite side of the field. This will force Cuba to either play a 2 deep zone, giving Gronk free reign down the seam, or keep one safety over the top and risk Hilton/Hamler getting deep while they commit that safety to Brown/Kupp's side.

Two TE sets- Occasionally in this game (20-25%) we'll run two TE sets to allow for Baker to use rolls out and pocket movement to set up easy throws. If Cuba goes zone heavy, this will allow Gronk/Bryant/Engram to work the seams of the field and find open holes in those zones to keep the chains moving.

Damien Harris- He's still unstoppable, not even a hit that probably broke all his ribs kept him from practicing this week and no one has addressed this in my opponents game plans.

Defense (Cover 3 zone base)
Cuba brings a plethora of playmakers on this side of the ball, so scheme is as important as anything and we think going with a zone heavy look, particularly cover 3 is our best bet to slow these guys down.

Cover 3- This will be our predominant coverage shell this week, we think it will help slow down big plays from a team that brings big plays from a number of very good WR's.

Cover_3_gif_medium.gif
This is how the shell looks pre/post snap. This allows Adams and our nickel back to control the flats while we set up a safety net over the top with 3 DB's taking 1/3 of the field each. This allows us to keep our eyes forward to ward off Watson just taking off, but also keeps Adams close enough to the LOS that he can still do what he does best, which is run support/blitzing off the edge from time to time. Our LB's roam the middle/intermediate part of the field to help clog up any crossers, and TE's working that area. We'll mix in some cover 2, with Adams sliding into a hybrid LB role for Smith and Elliott coming in to cover as another deep safety. This gives us extra ability to blitz Adams and Leonard from the interior as well.

Containing Cook- We get our fattest player back in Snacks, and we'll put him side by side with Grover Stewart to give us a powerful run stopping tandem in the middle, on the edges, Sweat and Crosby get the start as bigger bodies than Yannick and we still keep the same pass rushing ability with both of them having 5 sacks a piece. Our LB's are fast and active, and with us getting healthier up front we think those two will be able to run free and attack Cook in the run game.

Blitzes/rotations- As usual, on obvious passing downs our DT's will regularly be subbed out for pass rushers along the line, and Josh Uche will sub in at LB from time to time in these scenarios too to give us the personnel for move exotic blitz packages. Between our usual pass rushers, Jamal Adams, Darius Leonard and Josh Uche we should be able to run some creative zone blitzes like these:

bd_play6_hg.gif
bd_play7_hg.gif
We think our personnel gives us the ability to use these blitzes without tipping our hand, and hopefully that causes Watson to get erratic and make some major mistakes.

CUBA

Intro

This week we get our second opportunity at Camden. There have been some personnel  changes but a Jlash led team is well disciplined and effective at what they aim for strategically on a regular basis. We are going to need to be the best Cuba team possible if we want to win a big game vs the defending champions.

Offense

We have a lot of ways to generate big plays so in a matchup with a team as talented in certain areas like Camden we are going to match strength for strength and establish  our offensive potential. On offense, our first aim is running pick routes with Mo Alie Cox and Julio. Alie-Cox is a massive guy at 6’6, 260 and since Julio will face some form of double coverage we think that specific help could get Julio some easy receptions in the intermediate area, and this is important with Darius Leonard running around in the middle of the field. Denzel Ward is a bit on the smaller side in terms of physical stature so we’re hoping this attention eases attention to Dalvin Cook and opens up our best receiver in the early going.

Julio is going to receive his 10-14 targets but there are more viable receiving options we want to take advantage of some more favorable matchups with Justin Jefferson and DJ Chark liable to face one on one coverage. Both players are comfortable in the slot and we can pair them opposite from Julio with the aim at running Hi/Lo concepts that take advantage of the coverages Dennard and Coleman are assigned. With Jamal Adams and the aforementioned Darius Leonard playing in the middle of the field this matchup may be an area we start to rely upon after halftime adjustments are made. We sense an opportunity for strong production in this area and think it’s an appropriate response to blitzes from an excellent group outside their pass rush. Using these vertical concepts in the second half can make Camden more obligated to move Justin Reid to that coverage and expand our one on one vertical opportunities for Julio against presumable shadow coverage with Denzel Ward. Finally we’ve got Denzel Mims and Marvin Jones to sub our non Julio starters and be a potential 4th receiver that goes deep in possible isolation coverage.

We have made mention of some quality passing concepts, but the running game has become an area we need to rely upon because the effectiveness to compliment DeShaun Watson. Dalvin Cook has been a game changer in the past few weeks so he will finish the game with 25-30 with latter being more likely if Camden sells out to stop our passing game. Cook faces an extremely difficult matchup because the talent of Camden’s safeties and linebackers. Nonetheless he’s been too productive to avoid keeping him involved in the offense. Becton may not. He starting but Williams has been an apt replacement. We are going to use counters, draw plays, and give Cook opportunities to get upfield. Kyle Juszczyk will be the lead blocker as we use some I-formations, and two receiver sets with Mo Alie Cox in the game and test our running game. There will be some more two TE sets and heavy packages to show that we are not going to hide what we are aiming to do in these situations. Cook gets spelled on regular downs by Jamaal Williams and substituted for Leveon in the redzone.

Defense

Baker Mayfield is not as dynamic as Camden’s old passer but he presents a challenge when he has a clean pocket and is in shotgun sets. Camden will likely aim to run the ball and keep our offense off the field so we expect a good dose of Damien Harris and having the run plays lead to shots to AJ Brown.

Speaking of Brown, we’re going to give him to Jenoris Jenkins for a majority of the game. We want to run more man coverage schemes today and Jenkins will need safety help. This comes with Tyrann Mathieu for the most part, but the presence of Evan Engram changes our safety responsibility on some occasions. Thus Jimmie Ward will have stricter responsibility and is used as the 3rd safety playing on top of Jenkins.

We mentioned Evan Engram and we want Eric Rowe to travel with him on a few occasions, specifically isolation opportunities as he’s our best HWS player for what Engram does well. With our traditional 5 secondary players we’ll let Rowe be a CB a little more in this matchup so he can individually cover Engram. When Gronk is on the field, Rowe will alternate between coming down to help against the run and playing deep to help Isaiah Oliver in coverage.

Kenny Moore will also move around frequently with Cooper Kupp as both are mostly slot players that can extend to the boundary with their skill sets. We love blitzing with the secondary because their effectiveness but that won’t be often in this matchup. On the few times we do, the hope is Moore is the pass rusher and can confuse Mayfield as he will be lining in the slot against Kupp. On the 30% or so or plays Kupp is on the boundary Isaiah Oliver will man the slot position and in recent weeks he’s done enough productive things to maintain a starting role. Hamler has a nice speed advantage so we’re going to rely on our pass rush to avoid that isolation battle from being continuously exploited. Our adjustment after half time would be running more two man under schemes with both safeties deep.

Finally our battle with Camden in the trenches will be a tough test. Bolles and Brown are some quality options on the edges it’s up to our similarly impressive pass rush to make some plays. Jerry Hughes is in the midst of one of his strongest seasons and played a major role in frustrating Russell Wilson last week against a similarly quality blind side protector in Duane Brown. Likewise, Cam Jordan is elite and his matchup with Brown should result in victories for both parties. However, we expect that Jordan can get a clutch play if necessary or force a continual pressure which is when Mayfield becomes susceptible to making turnover worthy decisions. We also don’t have to worry about Mayfield doing anything as a runner so our sub packages with guys like Denico Autry, Mario Edwards, Matt Judon, and Alex Highsmith will get some serious run to spell our edge rush and supply for the run presence DaQuan Jones and Nnadi are suppose to provide.

I think both teams did a good job here. While I do not think, and wouldn't make the accusation that Camden is tanking, I do feel they have kind of accepted things the way they are this season which led them to make bold trades.

The result is, imo, while they still have a solid roster and good gameplans, I feel that Cuba is the better overall team here and will find more success being able to dictate the flow of the game.

I really don't know if this is a better offense than what Mayfield has IRL, and he's been trash most of the season. Plus, the interior DL of Camden is a big 'yikes' with Damon Harrison somehow drawing a starting nod despite being on the IRL Seahawks' practice squad. Against Dalvin Cook, I know who I'm taking.

Yep he played 19 snaps

Correct. Which wasn't the issue raised here. He's also in a rotation, as noted in the gameplan. Which also wasn't the issue raised here. Don't mind people knocking his effectiveness, but the bigger "yikes" here would be mocking a lineup and being incorrect about it when it take 30 seconds to find the answer.

I’m just providing evidence that he played with a snap count number

He played this week.

I know--after he was promoted from the practice squad.

You're still starting a guy the Seahawks don't consider one of their 53 best players despite fielding one of the worst IRL defenses in the league.
