No coach really was put in a more difficult position than normal than Maloof. It doesn't excuse him completely, but that does have to be taken into account in evaluating his performance. I think the major problem has been mostly the punt returner position...I view the Cordarrelle thing as an isolated incident and really not a factor, but the punt return thing has been a continual issue and hasn't gotten better. None of the other teams got to practice either, and the Vikings are terrible......

That's certainly a fair point, but I'm also not as sure on what teams had such a dramatic turnover in personnel either. I don't know who actually comprises the special teams (but I would think it'd be mostly defensive players and a handful of offensive ones), but a significant number of over half of the defense wasn't even on the team a year ago and have had to learn it on the fly. TENINCH
Is it me or does KJ Osborn look slow when he does get a chance to return the ball?
SemperFeist
Cutting has been cut. I wonder if they’ll try to put him on the PS.

He doesn’t look like a natural KR to me. Maybe a Pr if he can hold on to the ball. I think Abdullah is the best non-starting KR on the team right now. I would like this to improve after next year’s draft.

This team does it far too often under Spielman.

Man is this team bad at drafting specialists or trading for them. Since McLaughlin and Carlson left, I'm expecting nothing less than multiple ProBowl seasons, a Superbowl winning Field Goal kick and HOF considerations. Why? Because Vikings. That's why. A top "returner contract" with the promise that we would utilize him in the offense probably.

I don’t care how good a specialist is in college, or how many teams are “after them” as UDFAs as was the case with Cutting apparently. Drafting then has shown, time and time again, to be a bad use of assets. Better throwing a dart at a high risk (injury/off the field) player at an impact position than a solid specialist that can be found outside the draft.

And I'm not sure what he's referring to...just specialists, since that's only happened 4 times in Spielman's tenure as GM...Blair Walsh, Jeff Locke, Daniel Carlson and Cutting...and if Zimmer had had a little more patience with Carlson, that might have worked out, since he seems to be doing alright with the Raiders. That's 4 times out of 93 picks since 2012. I don't think that's an unreasonable amount.

I am not sure what he's referring to either, but I assume it has to do with using draft picks on two kickers and a long snapper between 2018 and 2019. That is a lot of draft picks to use on specialists in two years. It looks even worse given the results.
