At least under the same owner, the Cards have become a solid franchise once he got himself a new stadium in Arizona and suddenly had the revenue to put a competitive team on the field.

Yes, prior to that new stadium in Arizona, their owner really lacked the money to field a competitive team, but those days have changed for the better. The Lions never had that excuse, Ford was one of the richest owners, just totally incompetent. He hated firing people and instead kept them around in his scouting department which became a walking disaster for the team. He hired some of the worst GM's in the history of the game and worse yet, kept most of them running the ship for at least 5 years.

Here's what happens to a team with a weak owner!!!!!

Owner is an indecisive person, unable to make decisions.

Owner's indecisiveness rubs off on his FO who become an extension of their owner

Owner bases whether to fire an incompetent on how well he personally likes the guy no matter how bad he is at rebuilding a franchise and if forced to do so, puts him in his scouting department as a last resort.

Incompetent FO, hires incompetent HC's who in turn, hire incompetent assistent coaches and between them all, they draft incompetent prospects, because they stink at their jobs..

This was the Lions for 50 years, hard to beat that, but Cleveland is well on its way.

Are we really going with the Cardinals being a solid franchise? They've made the playoffs 4 out of 11 years (soon to be 4 out of 12) since opening the stadium and they look like they're on track for a new coach and full rebuild

The Saints deserve an honorable mention.  Before the Payton/Brees era they had only won 1 playoff game, and it took them 30 years to do it.

Imagine where we'd be if Brees never hurt his shoulder....:S

As a 23 year old Buffalo Bills fan, it’s crazy that the franchise did enough early on to only have two mentions so far in this thread.

Four straight super bowls is no small feat, even if you didn't win them.

Finally, a poll the Browns can win.

Its probably not them though. They were the gold standard for franchises back in the 40s-60s and still very well thought of through the 70s-80s with players like Otto Graham, Jim Brown, Brian Sipe, Lou Groza, Ozzie Newsome, Paul Warfield, Hanford Dixon, Bernie Kosar and Marion Motley on those teams.

They played in 11 straight championship games and won 8 of them during the Otto Graham, Jim Brown and Paul Brown days. Essentially they were the 2000s--Present Patriots dynasty 50 years ago, but more dominant.

I know it has been all down hill since the Ravens stole our team and mojo to go along with it ;), but the Browns as a franchise from 1945-1990 was extremely good as they also made the playoffs 7/10 years in the 80s. I dont think the 1999-2017 horror show should knock their entire franchises existence into the ground.

Compared to what they were before they got their new stadium, yes, they did not belong on the list.

The NFL by their own admission, is a QB/schedule league. Their schedules are designed so that 4 to 6 new teams make the playoffs every year, to avoid being one of those teams, you need a solid franchise QB who can overcome the tough schedules winning teams receive every year.

The Cardinals have made the playoffs if you include this year, 33% of the time, hardly in the same category as Detroit who needed 50 years to become competitive or the Browns who are currently at around 20 years. Even the Cowboys, Chargers and the Jets are on a far worse level than the Cardinals.

Is it sad that the Cardinals have not won a championship for 47 years, of course,, but I will ask you this, would you trade your current franchise for Cleveland's, I do not think so.

I agree that since Detroit's old owner died, they are no longer a joke that they were just a few years ago.

The Chargers are a miserable franchise as well and believe it or not, under J

rry Jones, the Cowboys owner/GM, the Cowboys have been nothing to write home about for a long time till last season and it looks like that was just an odd year that is not carrying forth.

Pre FA, the Bills were a dominate team, post FA, the Bill sunk into the mud of a desperate franchise that did not have the financial resources to compete. Their new owner seems better off financially and so the Bills have shown some improvement, but it is their post FA period that gets them into the conversation.

Chargers easily, Dean Spanos is the worst owner in NFL history. I thought Georgia Frontierre would remain on top but his FO decision-making from firing a HC that went 14-2 to forcing the the relocation to LA for the $$$ shows he cares only for the bottom-line and nothing else.
