I'm seeing reports that Aaron Glenn is in the mix for the Saints HC job.

There's a very good reason that Sean Payton is stepping away.

  • No QB
  • Cap-astrophe

I have no idea why anyone would want to go there right now

That would be a big loss.  It would be bigger if he took anyone with him i.e. Pleasant.

It would not be good for us for sure.

Dennis Allen is also reportedly in that mix.

It's just such a disaster of a mess to have to clean up.

Before this year - they're -$74M in the hole. You make some moves and gut the roster just to get the cap space to run a team this year, you're ideally looking at around $70M in cap space for next year. However, that would involve

- Trading Marshon Lattimore

- Cutting Michael Thomas,

- Cutting Cam Jordan

- Cutting Malcolm Jenkins

- Cutting Terron Armstead

- Cutting Demario Davis

Then restructuring some other guys like Kamara and Ramczyk just get to wiggle room ($17M).

I'll take Lattimore off their hands.

I was 100% saying the same thing about the Lions job last year.

That's a fair point. However, our cap situation was vastly better and (at the time) had a franchise level QB in Stafford. It's possible that Stafford could have opted to stay if we somehow brought in a big name coach. Even if that isn't the case, he's a valuable trade asset.

Outside of Lattimore, the Saints don't have a ton of assets that can be moved for draft picks and/or cap relief.
