sp6488
+ No turnovers by the offense + Very few penalties + Defense scoring off a turnover - Coaching staff going conservative in the 3rd

We always seem to get conservative way too early, and it not infrequently comes back to bite us. Luckily today was not one of those ocassions
Danand
Up - Oline held up well in pass protection and did well in run blocking - We played more aggressive on offense and “found” our identity with the throws from Flacco - We won the turnover battle Down - Injuries showed up again, especially oline and dline is hampered - Getting cute/conservative (we should have learned by now that is stupid) - Defense struggles more than it should Overall, we can’t be unhappy about the result. Raiders came close, when we stopped playing and just tried to call plays on offense and defense. I think we all got the same feeling in the 3. Quarter, where we threw the stay route/screen with no one blocking, and our defense just played off and soft. Raiders gained all momentum fast to make it a one-score game, and a turnover from offense could easily have sealed the game at that point. That’s what we have seen before and what has cost us victories. Oline played their best game, and I think we saw the ceiling for our offense. We all know, even the most pessimistic of us, how Flacco can hit the deep throws and how he can deliver those 17-22 yards passes down the field on five step drops with a clean pocket. When he made the plays, he wasn’t standing in the pocket for 4 seconds, the oline just had to keep him clean for 2,5 second so he could step in and deliver. It might be more high risk plays, but I think we all could see the difference. With Flacco, it won’t ever be a rhythm offense, but more of a chunk, incomplete, run, run, 3 yards pass, run, chunk. If we have 3-4 drives like that in a game, we get about 20 points which should be enough to be in contention in the games we play. If our friggin defense played better. Again, our inability to get off the field on 3 down cost us, and this game was a lot closer than the final scoreboard indicates. The patented soft defense that try to prevent the big plays and force turnovers and let the opponents drive the ball down the field for 4-8 minutes constantly is not the answer. If they don’t force the turnovers, then we get our offense on the field less than 10 times a game, and that will kill us. We have games where we face a rookie QB, a backup/Sam Bradford but no rb, Jay “I don’t give a ****” Cutler. This could/should be 3 wins and a 6-3 record after the Titans. It won’t be, and we will be so frustrated about it, but staying in the 5-4 heading into the bye week should be realistic.
Mancunian Raven
Positives Better play from just about everyone. Much, much better offensive playcalling. That's what this offense should be. No INTs for Joe, who looked as good as he's looked in a while. Mike Wallace finally showed up, and was used as he should be. Willie Henry is developing nicely. Better passrush, with some decent blitzing. Negatives The defense is still too passive in the secondary, and allows too many 3rd down conversions. Against better QBs than EJ Manuel, that will cost us. The offense shutting down for the 3rd quarter, including actually giving up on a couple of drives. Injury to Skura, which just adds to the O-line woes. No passing TDs, and too many trips into the redzone resulting in FGs. Michael Crabtree is still capable of killing us. wackywabbit
Most of the success for Crabtree was against Humphrey. Kid still has some developing to do which isn't surprising. He underestimated how physical Crabtree would be in fighting for a first down when he caught it short of the sticks; a good/less casual tackle there would have prevented the TD drive. Jimmy came back in after a couple drives off and things looked a lot better. Carr got burned when Manuel escaped the pass rush, but that's kind of like a broken play. I think it was a strong defensive performance overall. I don't think the game briefly being a one score contest for a 5 minute stretch in the second half means that it was closer than the score indicates. It's rare that a game has 0 drama, and it's not like they ever tied or led outside the very early portions of the game. It was a pretty smooth win; which is what we should hope for against a backup QB.

We have seen that too much, and a better QB could have killed us. We did more than enough to secure the game, but we didn't put it away until we got the sack from Suggs and then a score. AFlaccoSeagulls
positives: * Each week I like what I see from Marlon Humphrey more and more. * Lardarius Webb still has the ability to play at a pretty solid level * Tony Jefferson finally made his way into the game. It only took 4 games, but hey, it's something! * Willie Henry looked solid. * OL was easily the MVP of the game, the way they handled Khalil Mack. * Alex Collins had several nice runs and no fumbles. Negatives: * Still too many blown coverages. If we weren't playing EJ Manuel, it would've been vastly different. * There was a play where Matthew Judon was in coverage against Jared Cook and luckily Manuel overthrew him in the endzone. WHY?!?!?!?! * Still no consistent pass rush from any of our OLB's.

berlin calling
didn't think they had it in them to take the game in Oakland, so thats a big plus. i won't get overly excited though cause you see the same flaws each week, to me all related to bad coaching. we need capable coordinators the worst way. the talent is there, once every while the team puts it together, plays a good game, just to fall back to bad habits the weeks after. Ravens should be able to easily take the next 3 games but of course they won't, i'll gladly eat crow if they do. back to topic, what strikes out to me as positives from this game are Greg Roman, even with this decimated crew he coaches the guys up to play hard and disciplined, run and pass block really well no penalties! keep it up please, stay disciplined Humphrey at 20yo is doing much better than expected, he gets beat of course he does but boy he looks tremendous already
Danand
Humphrey really surprised me as well. I don't think we have seen much of the downfield throws where he doesn't get his head turned or make an obvious PI. He has been really good in most facets of the game, and the plays where he gave up too much, it can be easily corrected. Going from Castillo to Roman has already provided a huge boost. We never saw a performance like yesterdays from last years oline. We have been able to do more with less with Roman in house.

At least it looks like some of the OLB's are starting to tell us what kind of players they are: ZaDarius looks like he's going to end up being an interior guy, much like Pernell McPhee was. Judon is going to be another Courtney Upshaw / Jarrett Johnson type. I still don't know about Bowser and Tim Williams, though. I really hope they can provide something for us, because right now our OLB's just do nothing. Suggs is so damn slow off the ball and Smith/Judon don't offer anything else on the edge in terms of pass rush, either. Here's the snap count for our OLB's on Sunday: Quote OLB-Suggs 44, Z,Smith 37, Judon 33, Bowser 9, T.Williams 7. 16 total snaps for the Bowser and Williams, but tbh I didn't notice them doing anything in those 16 snaps, but I also didn't notice Judon/Smith doing anything in their combined 70 snaps either. If it was me, I'd be using Suggs/Judon/Smith as the 1st/2nd down guys and using Bowser and Williams as the edge rushers on 3rd down where they can pin their ears back and use their acceleration and speed to get around the edge. Yes more snaps for the young guys. There is no reason why old slow Suggs should be leading the team in sacks. On a side note, what a strange season its been so far. Even with how bad the ravens have looked, no other teams outside of KC have looked dominant. If the ravens can somehow get it all together (offense is progressing in right direction), then they can be a legitimate playoff team that could make some noise come January.
