Antarctica Katabatic Beasts

Motivation: Tua time!!!!

Personnel Changes: Tua time!!!!

Offensive Formations: Spreading IC way way out with traditional shotgun formations, playing a lot of 4WR sets this week.  Will also be mixing in 3WR/TE as well.

Tempo: Playing a traditional tempo to help Tua get adjusted to the game.

Playcalling Distribution: 60% pass and 40% run

Run Scheme: our runs will focus on power running with a large amount of traps, counter traps, pulling sweeps, and pulling counter sweeps.  These plays are going to focus on the outside where IC has 2 very aggressive ends (Mack and Garrett). We are going to look to trap the crap out of them and take that aggressiveness away from them so they have to play more timid in the passing game. This will lead to more time for Tua to drop dimes to our ELITE WRs.

Audibles: screens and slants will mostly be our check down plays to move out of poorly called pass plays.  If Tua recognizes blitz pre-snap he will look to check into a screen/quick slant play.  We will have a number of variations of the screens, even WR screens to Lamb and Godwin we will use.

Passing: we are going to be playing a lot with 4 WR/RB sets this week to spread IC way out and let Godwin and Diggs work the middle of the field and give easy wide open targets to Tua.  We will look to utilize slants, posts, and crossing routes layered to exploit our advantage in the IC-DB matchups. RB's will be used 50/50 in helping chip/block anything that gets through and faking that and slipping out to be a check down outlet or running a number of wheel routes.  When we run the wheel routes we will clear out the one side of the field with crossing/slants moving everything to the opposite side of the field and Gurley or Akers will be the primary target on the wheel route to the freed up side.  Brown starting on the outside allows Godwn to shift to the slot.  We will look to take some deep shots to Brown and Diggs with Godwin and Lamb manning the underneath routes.  We look to target Godwin a lot out of his slot position.

Playaction and RPO's: these are going to be thrown in a good bit to take advantage to the spread out field.

First play of the game: Tua comes out, under center in a 3WR set (Diggs, Brown, Godwin).  This play is going to be a flea flicker deep bomb to one of the two WRs running go routes (Diggs and Godwin).  Time to have fun boys!!!

Defense Base Formation: playing a base 3-4 man defense this week.

Playstyle: going with 3-4 as our base D this week as it will give us a better opportunity to get pressure on Tannehill and cover the receivers.  We will use a higher percentage of zone whether in 3-4, nickle or dime.  We will look to disguise this by showing man and blitzes before falling back to cover on the snap.  Playing more zone and disguising the look will hopefully take away all of the short/quick/underneath plays.

Run defense.  We will be using our 3-4 d to load up the box tight to the line on clear run plays and big formations.  Runs blitzes will be heavy on big formations and early downs.  We want to get penetration and blow up the plays before they get started.

Passing Defense: we think if we take away the quick/underneath/short passing game from Tannehill that we can win the game. So as much as we can, we will be showing man/blitz and fall back into a zone.  We will mix up the zones between underneath and deep.  We will also use man coverage enough to keep Tannehill off balanced on his reads.

_____

Here is your chance Tua, Laki maikaʻi

Ivory Coast Black Rhinos

Offense
Primary Formation: 11 Personnel Single Back- We’re coming out with a single back set, Tannehill splitting time under center, in shotgun, and in pistol. We’ll have three receivers as our primary set. On short yardage and goal line situations, we’ll bring in Kyle Rudolph on the field and bring Robby Anderson off. We’ll want to be equal in passing and rushing for the offense this week.

Running Game Focus- We’ll utilize Nick Chubb as the primary back on offense, with Ezekiel Elliot spilling him with approximately 70-30 split. We like our matchups on the offensive line up front, and feel that we’ll be able to create holes through interior runs. If Antarctica runs a 3-4 with Frank Clark as one of the ends, we’ll be attacking that hole with double teams, the guard working his way up to the linebacker level after moving Clark out of the way. We’ll run counter plays with pulling guards to take advantage of aggressiveness, and will build the run game to help boost the play action pass later on.

Passing Game Focus- We’re going to spread out Antarctica’s defense with 3 receivers, primarily Terry McLaurin, Robby Anderson, and Chase Claypool. When we see a single safety high, we’ll have Tannehill looking to take a deep shot with one of our receivers. We’re going to leverage our receiving weapons and keep Antarctica on their toes, leveraging play action passes built from the running game, and having designed bootleg passes with Tannehill having the option to tuck if he wants. We’re going to have our running backs get more involved in the passing game, coming out of the backfield as a checkdown option as well as some wheel routes. We’ll also leverage the backs chipping on their way out to slow down the pass rush, but if we’re feeling like are bringing more pressure we’ll keep the backs in to help block and give Tannehill time to pick apart matchups. Jared Cook will be lining up both in-line and split out wide, and depending on the matchup we’ll leverage his mismatch. We’ll rely heavily on pre-snap motion, partly to get a man moving at the snap for the play, partly to force the defense to shift before the snap, and partly to help identify the coverage pre-snap.

X-Factor on Offense: Balance- We want to approach this defense with a balanced attack, taking advantage of where we can win matchups in the running game as well as the passing game. We’re not going to rely on Tannehill to go out and win the game by himself, he’ll take what the defense gives him and the key is to sustain drives to result in points and control the clock.

Defense
Defensive Formation: 4-3 Defense- Our standard formation against a two wide receiver set (or less) will be the 4-3 alignment. When a third receiver is in play, we’ll have a nickel defense, sending Patrick Queen off and bringing A.J. Terrell in. When we see four or more receivers, we’ll take Devin White out, and bring in Bradley Roby

Secondary Coverage: Cover-2 and Cover-3 Zone-Heavy Scheme- For this matchup we’re going to run a lot of zone coverage, with some Cover-1&2 man under schemes sprinkled in. We will be having our defense play with their heads facing the line of scrimmage, and ready to collapse the moment Lamar Jackson tries to run with the ball. We won’t have specific assignments, but our defensive backs will mimic man coverage at times with following motion men, while just shifting the zone coverages. We want to try and clog up the middle of the field against Lamar, forcing him to try and beat us with pin-point throws to sidelines. We’ll keep Patrick Queen as a spy against Lamar, and when he’s out Devin White will handle those duties in nickel. With the pass rush we have, we feel that we can let the secondary sit back and wait for Lamar to make a handful of mistakes, and capitalize on those chances. When we do run some man, Lavonte David will take the primary TE, Lavonte David will take the primary HB. If the HB stays to block, David has free release to chase Lamar.

Defensive Box- Our interior linemen will be focused on two gapping and clogging up the middle lanes, both for stopping the run as well as preventing Jackson from slipping through. The edge rushers will be playing the run on the way in to the quarterback; if we can get a hit on Jackson we will do so. We’ll use Patrick Queen / Devin White to spy on Jackson, and we’ll take advantage of our strong front 7 unit to limit the damage they do in the running game. We will be ready and keying in to see if Antarctica rolls with an RPO heavy offense and will work to prevent it from getting rolling with bumps at the line of scrimmage.

X-Factor on Defense: Chase Young- Chase Young gets his first start of the season due to Garrett’s COVID situation. We believe that starting opposite Mack will allow Young to get a lot of  opportunities to make plays, and we feel he’ll be able to keep our pass rush sustained from both sides of the field.

Just now, Counselor said:

Well he got you there. And all although he was benched in real life Pickle is the coach and he doesn’t bench him here.

A guy with 4 NFL starts who has thrown for over 93 yards twice? Yeah, we can run the exact same defense and I'm positive the outcome against Tua will be better than against the reigning MVP.

Well that flea flicker will probably get crushed with the paper on line difficulties but Tua will probably have some success with them playmaker and matchup here. Unfortunately he has been woefully inconsistent

Pickles obsession with the three four when his defense looks pretty legit in a 4-3 is just well puzzling. Frank Clark's worst skill is block shedding and that's what you're trying to have him do.

Ic runs over Antartica 21-16
