The offensive line is actually better than it has been in recent years. I think Stafford is either nearing the end of his career or the end of his ability to give it his best for the Lions. They can absolutely afford to trade him and must do so imo. As far as the run game, they were doing OK with Swift but aside from him they're suffering from repeated misses on RB draft picks over the years and don't have a lot there. It would be smart if they can and his contract allows it. They need a complete reboot. Just havent been the same since Megatron retired and seem like a ship with no rudder. If they are able to trade Stafford so he can actually go compete for the next few seasons before retiring for a 1st+3rd they should be all over that. Its best for him and the team and Lions need to get a proper rebuild going. Squeezing the life out of Matt Stafford for the twilight of his career is helping nobody Edited November 28, 2020 by AkronsWitness

Low key I always dreamed of being a Stafford landing spot as a stopgap after Ben retires.

candyman93
Get a offensive minded HC. I’d try Joe Brady.

Yeah but they have been especially bad in the last few seasons. At least back when Stafford was 27 years old and Megatron was there the Lions were a formidable team. It has been a disaster ever since he left

Nope There's a reason many engineers are lacking in people skills. But in all seriousness, I commend this decision. Patricia got more than enough time to take the team to the next level. Instead the Lions have regressed badly. Looks like Darrell Bevell will take over for the rest of the season.

KingOfNewYork
I dont agree with this decision simply because they caved to media and fan pressure. They didn't want to fire him and Quinn.

A team with a playoff caliber roster who is in need of a QB upgrade would absolutly trade a 1st+ whatever for 5 years of Stafford. San Fran/Denver/Indy should be all over that if they are able to afford that contract. Problem is, are the Lions going to continue to hold Stafford hostage.
