incognito_man
This seems relevant enough for its own thread because I'd have clicked it if it was one. Former big name, at a position (returner) of need. Giddy up Edited December 3, 2020 by incognito_man
Refugee
I'll repost this here, then: Didn't recall that Austin signed with the 9ers in training camp. Signed on August 17th, goes on IR with a knee injury on Septemebr 3rd. Ouch. They released him on Oct 27th with an injury settlement. Hopefully he picked up some of the Shanahan concepts and can get a few plays outside of just returns. The good thing is, if he's just a returns/motion guy, he doesn't need to learn the whole playbook and can still contribute. We'll see what kind of wheels he has left. Nothing special as a WR but as a decoy and possible hand it off guy he'll serve MLF well. I hope he can filed a KO and punt as Shep as much as i rooted for him continues to let us down.
pacman5252
I like the move. Seems like a nice no risk, nice on the margins upgrade. -Austin is a career average 7.9 yard PR.... We're averaging 5.6 on 7 total returns, 3 yards a game..... That is horrible. Most teams are averaging around 15 punt returns yards a game. There were a few chances Shep had at returning yesterday he didn't take. Just an average guy who can make one guy miss and get 5-10 yards 1-2x a game would help. -Austin hasn't really returned kicks in awhile. The only year he did though he averaged 22 yards, which is better than shep/erv -Now throw in he can be an insurance policy for Erv in bubble screen/end around actions while our 4th/5th WRs have proven to essentially be worthless in that regard (as well as others) By no means is this a big upgrade. It matters though.
ReadyToThump
I really hope this means we cut Shepard...
Brit Pack
5 years ago he caught for 400 and ran for another 400. 4.34 at the combine. He is a Ervin replacement/complement.
Pugger
Tyler Ervin must be hurt more than they are letting on.

Just wait until Shepherd trots out to return punts and Austin is on the sideline. LoL
Green19
Takes on the Ervin role in the offense and hopefully pushes Shepherd to the practice squad...
deltarich87
Like I said in the other thread, it's a move that makes a lot of sense. Nice little bit of insurance for Ervin who hasn't been able to stay on the field this year. Austin can do a lot of the things that Ervin's done in this offense. More importantly, he gives them an easy upgrade over Shepherd, who likely gets cut shortly
Norm
Already been said but replaces Tyler/Shep on returns immediately and has experience on offense doing everything we've asked Ervin to do, if needed. Biggest no brainier ever, glad Gute had enough sense to make it, he doesn't have young legs anymore but it's better than anything we have on the roster for it at minimum. Should have been done last week but whatever Edit: let's not get caught up on him on offense though, that's not what this should be about, anything there is a bonus. They sure as hell shouldn't force that. Edited November 30, 2020 by Norm

Edit looks like it was 400+ from scrimmage and 570 all purpose. Unreal game. Edited November 30, 2020 by Norm
