2K20: Game #12 - Denver at Kansas City

Two weeks made a major impact on the race for the division. Las Vegas went from two back--with a shot at one back and owning the tie-breaker--to four back with five to play and the tie-breaker against them. The game Sunday is to clinch the division outright.

As noted in the Buccaneers game thread, Mahomes is on pace for another 5000 yard season. PM II needs almost exactly 300 yds/gm over the last five games. He's currently averaging 318 yds/gm.

The MVP race no longer appears to be Mahomes with Russell Wilson, but with Aaron Rodgers, who has more TD throws, 33-30, and a very comparable QBR, 86.2-85.2. Rodgers is a two time winner, but this may be his last shot, so a sympathy vote is in the air. It will tough, because PM II is on a roll. In his last four games, he’s thrown for 1,598 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception.

Denver's QB (ALL of them, even on PS) were out against New Orleans, for exposure to COVID. However, they tested negative and are expected back. In addition to the lost game, they missed practice time. https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/broncos_qbs_drew_lock_blake_bortles_brett_rypien_to_return_after_negative_covid_tests/s1_13132_33455873

Late start again this week.

Craig Stout did a nice article breaking down the defensive play against Tampa Bay. Here is part of his conclusion.
https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2020/12/2/21755052/chiefs-defense-film-review-fast-start-slow-finish-against-buccaneers-nfl-week-12

For the first quarter of this matchup, the Chiefs defense was dominant. They came up with big stops, got pressure on the quarterback and helped build a three-score lead. Even the second-quarter drive — highlighted by some explosive plays at the end — had moments where the Chiefs were able to come up with some stops.

But the game turned in the second half; the Buccaneers were able to consistently move the ball. Spagnuolo leaned on his dime defense to keep the Tampa Bay passing offense in check — and it struggled to do so. Timely plays deep in Kansas City territory kept the Chiefs at arm’s length for much of the day, but failure to close things out in the fourth quarter led to a tense final offensive drive.

After 12 weeks of the season, it’s pretty clear what this Chiefs defense is: a blitz-happy, turnover-centric pass defense that will try to force the offense to play a near-perfect game. Thus far, only the Raiders in Week 5 have been able to do that — which was, not coincidentally, the Chiefs’ only loss of the season.

Concerning Baker, I think they want to take some time getting him into playing shape. It's evident that he did not keep up the fitness training and athleticism was never his selling point.

With Sneed back and settled into the nickel CB role, Baker would be depth. When he can demonstrate a reliable role on the team, they will activate him. With Do'D out, that could be for ST. Even there, BoPete is in the way. The potential is there, but he has to climb the depth chart.

I have to wonder how much longer Denver's HC can last, or Elway.

As of now no sign of DeAndre Baker being brought up to the active roster. Thought tghis might be a good opportunity to get some real life PT. Would like to see him on the field prior to the week 15 bout against the Saints ...

I'd be surprised if he sees much playing time at all this year. DB isn't really a major issue, and that, to me, is more of a maybe he can develop into something down the road, kind of signing.
