We finish 0-16 and the Jets fire Adam Gase on Black Monday.

 

Jets Hire Joe Brady at their new HC. He's the flashiest new hire on the market. McVay vibes but I think he's even better. What he did at LSU and Carolina is pretty darn impressive. And we pair him with what will be the best QB prospect in a very long time.

Free Agency (after cuts and re-signings we have around 90 million in cap space)

Chris Godwin (WR): A guy no one has really talked about that's hitting the market. TB has cap space (30mill), but has a ton of guys they need to pay. Godwin finds himself as the odd man out. They actually don't need him. I see them bringing back AB for cheap rather than keeping Godwin. Godwin is still young and can be the #1 guy we need. A great do it all WR for our new QB. I think even if you don't agree with this... we are getting a WR somehow here. JuJu, Golladay, Davis, etc. We will be getting a close to #1 WR in FA somehow.

Marlon Mack (RB): Injured but has talent. So he won't cost a ton. We are one of few teams that can guarantee him a decent amount of snaps that have money. Mack, Perine and a rookie will take over the backfield.

Joe Thuney (OG): I think JD wanted him bad this last offseason, but he got tagged. He won't get tagged this next year and I think we get him. This makes the left side of our OL great. Even if we can't get him. We will get the next best OG on the market. This spot will be addressed IMO.

Bud Dupree (Edge): Pitt has to let guys go bc of a rough cap situation. They can't tie up a ton of cap in both Dupree and Watt down the road. We overpay... but get our edge we've all been wanting. Like WR, I think we get someone here. If you don't think Dupree is happening, we will still get someone very good here.

Kevin King (CB): A legit CB that we pay for. We have a lot of potential at CB, but no one really proven. King changes that and gives us a good outside CB to pair with the young Bryce Hall.

 

Trade

After securing the #1 pick we trade Darnold to Detroit for their 3rd. Darnold just isn't going to net us what we all hope. But with his 5th year option due. We can't keep him around.

 

NFL Draft

1. Trevor Lawrence (QB/Clemson) Best QB prospect since Luck. Not very man holes in his game and he immediately is who we rely on to make this franchise a winner. Just this time around we give our QB talent around him.

1. (from SEA) Wyatt Davis (OG/Ohio State)  JD continues to just help TLaw. An interior OL in some combo of Thuney, McGovern, Davis is great. Add Becton and Fant at OT and we have a complete OL.

2. Terrace Marshall (WR/LSU) Brady convinces JD to get a LSU WR he's familiar with for him and his new QB. Big body guy that plays a lot like Tee Higgins (who TLaw loved). Just helping out our new QB like we haven't done in forever. 

3. Hunter Long (TE/Boston College) Herndon hasn't lived up to what we wanted in him. He still is on the roster. But Long quickly becomes our starter and a legit weapon for TLaw. Who knows maybe Herndon fixes his issues and we have 2 very good TEs now. But we cant go into next year with relying on Herndon. So Long becomes an asset quickly.

3. (from DET) Israel Mukuamu (CB/South Carolina) Big press playing CB. We just continue to try and upgrade the secondary and add depth.

3. (from SEA) Javonte Williams (RB/UNC) Just adding more weapons for the offense. Mack still is the lead back. But Williams and Perine get their snaps as well.

4. Shaka Toney (Edge/Penn State) Just keep taking edges until we can get a guy that's a big asset next to our new star Dupree.

5. Amari Gainer (LB/Florida State) A do it all LB. Can actually line up all over the place as a LB, Pass rusher and even S at times. A jack of all trades weapon for us.

5. (from NYG) Leon O'Neal Jr (SS/Texas A&M) Good do it all S. Can play both FS and SS, but is better at SS. Great tackler who plays with passion.

6. Jarrett Patterson (IOL/Notre Dame) Just adding depth and bodies for the IOL.

7. Brent Cimaglia (K/Tennessee): Mann and Cimaglia will give us one of the best young ST specialists in the NFL.

 

So for me in this we fix A LOT. We totally change the look of the offense. Pretty much with 2/3 of it being new. And add a lot of nice new young pieces on defense as well.

On Offense... An OL of Becton, Thuney, McGovern, Davis, Fant is very good. And to revamp the WRs is huge. A WR group of Godwin, Mims, Crowder, Marshall, Doctson and Smith is very good and young.. RBs we get younger with Mack, Perine and Williams.

On defense to add a couple edges in Dupree and Toney is huge. We've needed edges for over a decade. We also add a couple CBs in King and Mukuama to sure up our CB group (King, Hall, Poole, Mukuama).

For me this team can compete and it's a step in the right direction for this team.

I love Joe Brady’s potential but I don’t think he’s the right hire for us to be honest. You’re asking a young guy with very very little coaching experience to take over a blank white canvas of a team. He’s a terrific coordinator but we need a leader the players will respect. I feel like this is the guy you hire with a ready made team that need new innovation. I want the coaches with HC experience building up programs. That being said...it would be hard not to be excited for him if Brady is indeed our choice but I stand by what I said.

Great mock. Really like the overall direction.

I actually love the Brady hire; he would develop Lawerence the right way and as shown really produces high scoring attacking offenses. 

Defensively we would be hoping for Dupree to lead the group of pass rushers and although I like him he’s just torn his ACL so would that make him unlikely to be full speed come next year?! Who knows. 
 

All in all I think if we do get the #1 pick and get Lawerence the whole franchise will just completely change. Love the mock and wild love to see the results.

I have Joe Brady as my number 1 HC. I think he will get a HC job this year. I know some say he is too young but I don't think that is a factor anymore. That is old school thinking. I also still think we get at least a 2nd and another pick for Darnold. Too many teams have old QB and Sam would be a great backup for one of those guys and could take it over when that vet gets done.

There's several guys I'd be happy with. I've done 3 mocks now and have had us get a different HC each time. I'd be happy with any of the 3 of mocked to us (Daboll, Campbell, Brady). I'd even be happy with a few others as well. But at this stage its hard to tell. I think we will have a good choice and be desirebalt if we get the 1st pick. But if we get the 2nd pick that hurts us quite a bit in the HC race as well.

Yeah I agree. Securing that first pick is very important and I don’t care if that means going winless or being the worst team in history. This thing needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

Becton-Thuney-Elflein-Davis-Fant is an incredible turnaround for the OL.  Going to post my mock later but still torn on going both Thuney and Davis or just Thuney.

I think you're with me where you view Elf as a starter. So I'm not sure if we go big after Thuney in FA AND draft a OG that high if we resign Elf. But McGovern hasn't been great this year, but he has another guaranteed year on his deal, so we can't cut him. Doesn't mean that we just let the 4 battle it out for 3 spots either.

I would be on board with this. I prefer drafting Travis Etienne to pair with Lawrence in the backfield, instead of a Marlon Mack. I also prefer Richard Sherman over Kevin King for leadership. To that end, I still prefer Robert Saleh over Joe Brady. Eric Bieniemy would be my 1A choice. 

Not sure we need to re-sign Brian Poole. I think one of Austin, Guidry or Jackson could take the nickel job if we had a stud No. 1 corner plus Hall as the No. 2.

I want more than one edge rusher brought in. I still prefer going to a 4-3 scheme, but that is up to the new DC. I also think we should part with Basham, Jenkins, Luvu...these guys aren't good enough, simply put.

I want a new right offensive tackle, so that Fant can be the swing tackle. An upgrade over Edoga, I think we need that. A veteran with winning experience would be nice. Marcus Cannon?

 

Overall, I am down with most of this.
