True, on Kickoffs. Punts are still the same and even 5 yard deep kickoffs can be returned depending on the situation if you have A GUY ! That's a good call though. I'd have to go back to D Green when we would use him in critical situations . Like the iconic return against the Bears in Chicago Playoff game! Brian Mitchell was the best we ever had and he should be in the Hall of Fame. Santana Moss was a great punt returner but bc he was our #1 WR we didn’t use him as a punt returner unless we needed a huge huge play like vs Detroit in 08. DHall was also a great return man but it was the same deal as Moss. We didn’t use him there bc he was our #1 corner and didn’t want to jeopardize him getting hurt. There's a decent chance in the next few years the kickoff as a whole will be torpedoed (*). Why worry about a kick returner? (*) Give the other team the ball on their 25 (minus or plus any penalty yards incurred on point after/two point try) or if they want, set up a 4th and 10 situation on the "kicking" teams 30 and make them play the down as a normal down with two provisos: If you choose to "go for it," you're locked into playing the down unless you burn a timeout. Any penalty that would grant an automatic first down does not grant the first down unless the yardage by itself grants a first down. Exception: unsportsmanlike conduct penalties would grant a first down (don't want to see a situation where the "kicking" team draws a holding call and then the "receiving" team takes the now 4th and 20 as an excuse to tee of on the opposing QB). 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
