onejayhawk 343
I looked up the weather for the Pittsburgh at Buffalo game--30s, windy, and rainy. The Chiefs get to go to south Florida. Miami is a better team than in recent years. Most rankings put them in the #10-#15 range. The Chiefs are solidly top 5. However, this is a road game and the Dolphins apply excellent pressure on the QB. Since the Steelers lost, the Chiefs have a plausible path to #1 seed. It's also a good opportunity to look back on the previous last-undefeated teams. Miami is, of course, the only undefeated champion.https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/lists/every-last-undefeated-nfl-team-17-0-miami-dolphins/ J

onejayhawk 343
Travis Kelce has been nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, the NFL's most prestigious honor. It's for excellence both on and off the field. onejayhawk 343
Great little side story. HC Reid sent HC Flores an order of rbs (or whatever) when the 'Phins beat the Pats last December, giving us home field.https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/andy_reid_sent_brian_flores_barbecue_after_dolphins_beat_patriots_last_season/s1_8061_33531809 Something tells me, they are not taking this game lightly. onejayhawk 343
Here's an update on DeAndre Baker. https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2020/12/11/kansas-city-chiefs-deandre-baker-practice-squad-progress-through-week-14/ Mostly, it has been a matter of getting physically back up to speed. he also has to learn the Chiefs' system. To that end, he's getting practice time against Hill, Hardman, and Watkins and he's showing potential. He can be elevated from PS for a game at any time. J

J I don't think he plays this year unless there's an injury. The top four are set; Ward, Breeland, Sneed, Fenton. Hamilton sticks for special teams. They could cut Bopete Keyes, but I don't think they want to risk losing him. Maybe the use him in the last game or two as a practice squad gameday active.
onejayhawk 343
I agree they won't cut Keyes. Hamilton is another story. All he does is ST. It's really three. Fenton has not been playing much, though I have seen no reason to justify that trend. Baker could easily push him. Lammons has been up. Armani Watts is not all that secure. Several of the CB have experience playin S and Sneed plays run support very well. Regardless, they are talking about Baker as a first round talent. That being the case, I expect they will find a use for him before the regular season plays out and include him on the post season roster. J
onejayhawk 343
Final injury update. Both teams will be limited in major players of their defense. onejayhawk 343
The Landlord is gimpy, so what are the Chiefs to do. Tyrann Mathieu is questionable for Sunday. Here are some thoughts about how the chiefs can handle the situation.https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2020/12/11/22170411/three-options-for-the-chiefs-defense-if-tyrann-mathieu-is-limited-on-sunday First option is using Sneed. The article's other two options are not good. Basically, Thornhill and Watts could buy a few plays. Sneed played S in college and we have Keyes to cover the slot. The Dolphin are not an explosive offense. Real first option is for the offense to make a good Miami defense look bad. J
onejayhawk 343
The two PS upgrades are Lammons and Wisniewski. It's worth noting that Rodney Clemons, who regularly plays S in practice, was available. https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2020/12/12/kansas-city-chiefs-week-14-chris-lammons-stefen-wisniewski-roster-moves/ The Dolphins place starting RB Myles Gaskin on the COVID list. Could be a mix of Thornhill and Sneed, depending on situation. And they still have Fenton as a fourth CB available, who ain't that shabby. And ultimately - we'll still have to see whether Mathieu isn't available after all. However, if he's got some issues I'd prefer to rest him wiith a look to the playoffs. onejayhawk 343
It is true that Lammons and Wisniewski are out of, call them options for lack of a better word. As noted above, the team could have promoted Rodney Clemons instead of Lammons. Clemons plays ST obviously, but he also regularly practices at S. Since he was not the choice, it led me to believe Mathieu was able to play. Sure enough:https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2020/12/13/22172403/report-tyrann-mathieu-expected-to-play-vs-dolphins J
