The AFC never changes. Brady leaves and it's 1 dominant team, and a bunch of teams people think are good as they all slowly implode by the playoffs.

Mahomes may have 6 SBs by the time he's done too.

It wasn’t Brady.

Put Brady back in New England and the Patriots are a 10 win team.

Put Belichick on the Buccaneers and the Buccaneers are a 2 loss team.

Belichick wasn’t lying when he said they sold out and this is the result.

Next year the Patriots are right back to contending.  The Bills will see what happens when their draft capital tanks and they have to pay people and cope with age.

The Jets will still be the Jets for one more year before Cowher gets it closer to his liking.

The Dolphins will be competitive, but not great.

Cam Newton in year two will be good enough.

Patrick Mahomes has a 6 million cap hit this year.  That goes up to 24, 31, 42 over the next three years.  This is it for the Chiefs being legitimate contenders.  Next year their defense falls apart.  The year after their defense will still be apart and their offense will show cracks Mahomes will have to try to fill.

Belichick coaches for another 5 years and he gets more rings or the same as Mahomes after this year.

So? They don't have an NFC East, there's your difference. You look at the NFC and it's anyone's guess who's making it out. You really think the Steelers, Bills, Titans, Colts or Browns are even going to challenge KC?

You make it sound like KC in the AFC being a walkover to the super bowl and a strike against KC.

Is KC elite and top of the AFC? Yes.

Is the NFC at the top filled with more parity, but no elite team?  Sure.

I'm saying it's no different than what New England faced. An elite team with no real competition for the SB.

Looks like Lawrence and Justin Fields will both be playing in the AFC so maybe that changes. If Herbert gets a decent coach that could setup a good rivalry too. Right now the AFC needs some help outside of KC.

The NFC has always had parity since the Rodgers era started. Teams that flash like San Fran, Carolina, Atlanta, Arizona.

Peyton, Big Ben, Rivers ... those teams weren't real competition?

Is it an indictment on teams in the NFC for not being able to build a team that could be dominant,  or just that in this era, NE was able to do so?

KC has the makings, but they need to finish the deal this year and stay there a few more years for it to be similar.

I was talking about this with a coworker the other day.  The AFC appears to be filled with young, talented, ascending QBs.  The draft will add a couple more.  The NFC has the aging or mildly-competent journeyman QBs.  It's probably more even than it feels, but right now, the conference with the strongest young QB play appears to be the AFC (honorable mention to Kyler).

overall the AFC is a stronger conference than the NFC.

I disagree. According to DVOA:

Average AFC DVOA: -3.2%

Average NFC DVOA: 3.3%

Median AFC DVOA: -7.1%

Median NFC DVOA: -1.2%

NFC has the top two teams: New Orleans, Tampa Bay

NFC has 4 of the top 6: NO, TB, GB, LAR

Ranking the teams 1-16 in each conference, the nth best NFC team is ranked higher than the nth best AFC team in 13/16 occurrences:

NO > KC

TB > PIT

LAR > BUF

GB > BAL

SEA = IND

ARI < MIA

SF < TEN

CHI > NE

WAS > CLE

CAR > LV

MIN > HOU

ATL > DEN

DET > LAC

PHI > JAX

NYG > CIN

DAL > NYJ

It's actually quite evident the NFC is the superior conference this season.

Thanks for sharing.

Looking at the above and when those slotted teams played each other

AFC 5 to 3

KC just beat NO

BUF beat the LAR week 3

MIA beat ARI

CLE beat WAS

LV beat CAR

MIN beat HOU

ATL beat DEN

NYG beat CIN

Yep, I'll take the larger statistical dataset over h2h matchups though!

Looks that way. By record and by QBs. Not to mention GB could have sent 11 to the Pro Bowl. Talk about WEAK competition.

Seattle blew six years of drafting: Wilson is on his own. Brees and Eli Manning are done (and Brady too, who came to take advantage of a weak conference). Philly and San Fran got hit with injuries. Wentz will have to restart elsewhere. Dak is broke. MM is finished. Minny is in rebuild. The Rams have Goff. Washington is genius to grab the 4th best QB in the NFC. The NFC is a wasteland!!!!!!

GB picked a good year to turn it around. Just hope the Bucs forget their long underwear. Arod should win THREE more trips to the SB in GB.

The Bills can keep it a game, which means anything can happen.  Titans maybe, but probably not.
