Was looking thru draft boards the other day and had this thought run through my head. Believe @DaBoys had made this point a few times already.

Ledyard doesn't even really scratch the surface of depth at LB.

Right and when we were a 34 team, we all begged for a NT. Either way, Dallas hates drafting middle of DL.

Right. I remember everyone wanting Ratilff to move to 5 tech where he was really built to play.  We never had that true NT. The Wilfork of the middle.

Idk if anyone has mentioned Kiser yet but maybe we should start talking about him a little more.

MICAH KISER (ILB)

HT: 6'2" WT: 240LBS.

POSITION: ILB

SCHOOL: Virginia

Overview

Kiser has used his instincts, hustle, and powerful tackling to become one of the most productive linebackers (both against the run and as a pass rusher) in the country during his three years on the field with the Cavaliers. The two-time All-Maryland pick and Baltimore Sun's Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, Kiser redshirted his first year in Charlottesville. He made 15 tackles in 12 games as a reserve as a freshman, tying for the team lead with nine stops on special teams. Kiser was installed in the middle of the Cavs' defense in 2015 and finished his second-team All-ACC sophomore year with a conference-leading 115 tackles (13 for loss, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles). The hits kept coming in his junior campaign, as Kiser was a first-team Associated Press All-American and All-ACC pick after ranking third in the country with 11.2 tackles per game (134 total, 10 for loss, 6.5 sacks, seven passes defensed) and tying for fifth in the FBS with five forced fumbles. He ranked among the nation's leaders in tackles again in 2017, receiving third-team AP All-American and first-team All-ACC honors with 145 stops (50 solo), 9.5 for loss, five sacks, four pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries

The LB class is DEEP. They have them at every level. Bona fide 1st rounders like Smith and Edmunds. 1st/2nd tweeners like Evans/LVE. You could get name guys in the later 2nd like Malik Jefferson, and there's a chunk of mid-round talent in the "Anthony Hitchens range," like Josey Jewell, the aforementioned Kiser, the Clemson Mike Kendall Joseph, a 4 year SEC starter at Mike Skai Moore Jr. And then risky guys like the one handed Griffin, or the bigger bodied Jack Cichy who supposedly could have been a top tier LB if he didn't miss the entire year. There's also a fair share of late round projects. It's a good year to get a LB or two, which makes giving Hitchens any significant money hard.

Tex knows me well. But guys, I LIVE here, in Philly. Well, NJ but just across the bridge. It's been MURDER listening to their ish for the past 3 weeks. OMG, I get it, they are excited, etc, but man it sucks.

Correct. Hitchen on the cheap. Fine. Otherwise, draft baby.

Well, guess we shouldn't bother trying guys. Better luck never?

The reason for the rant is we have the players. We had them. Seems like we will always have the players we need. Every year.

But for whatever reason our coaching staff excels at doing whatever it takes to not get these players to championship levels. It's just so pathetic.

It's insane. We are more than good enough at drafting. the real question is will our coaching staff make good use of it and win more than 1 playoff game.

The cowboys organization is like a ground beef production factory that uses triple A steak. Totally mishandles their rich resources.

Not sure I get the analogy but YES, you do get the meaning behind the rant.

I think a good quality lineman is going to fall into our laps at 19.  Do  n't know if it will be DL or OL but we will have a choice.  Whether we upgrade the trenches or not remains to be seen.  Regardless I think a run on QB's will take place and this will drive talent down in the first round.  Sit tight and let the draft come to us.

Free Agency :

Tag Lawrence
Tender Irving
Re-sign/ext. Martin, LP, Smith, and Looney.
Release: Scan, Hanna, Mayowa, and Beasley.
Restructure: Dez. Add another year and some incentives.

FA signings:

Kenny Vaccaro [SS]- Dallas had a 1st rd grade on KV in '13. He's younger and going to be far cheaper than Earl Thomas, who is a pipe dream imo.
Kevin Minter [LB] - With Hitch and Wilbur out, Dallas will need to add at least one vet to the mix.
Chris Smith [DE] - Replaces Mayowa
Troy Niklas [TE] - Has been bitten by injury bug, but is a good blocker. Cheaper version of Hanna.

1[19] - Trade to Cleveland. Browns have a massive amount of cap space ($110m) and 12 picks. Think John Dorsey is going to be looking to make moves in an attempt to turn that franchise around quickly. Dallas receives 2[33] and 2[35].

2[33] - James Washington (WR - Oklahoma St) - Dez's future seems unclear and TWill likely won't return in 2019.
2[35] - James Daniels (G - Iowa) - Quick, versatile and lots of upside.
2[50] - Kemoko Turay (DE - Rutgers) - Think DLaw plays this season on tag and believe Crawford/Irving may be on outs come 2019. Turay is one of my pet cats for 2018.
3[81] - Kendrick Norton (1T - Miami) - Excellent run stuffer and space eater.
4[116] - Tegray Scales (LB - Indiana) - Lee's future replacement.
4[137c] - Justin Jackson (RB - Northwestern) - Lot of mileage, but terrific runner and receiver.
5[171c] - Durham Smythe (TE - Notre Dame) - Under used at ND. Probably goes higher.
5[173c] - Joesph Noteboom (T - TCU) - ZB experience and Green's replacement.
6[193] - Kurt Benkort (QB - Virginia) - Benkort needs work, but has some nice intangibles and tools.
6[208c] - Robert Foster (WR - Alabama) - Good project at WR.
7[236] - Chris Worley (LB - Ohio St) - Depth and ST
